You may be able to receive some assistance from the Lancaster (PA)County Historical Society.

One day in the 1980's my father and I took a trip to Lancaster to search for family history. We were allowed to view and make copies of a detailed (79 legal pages, single spaced) history of the descendants of Hans George Jundt, born 1691. I did not copy all pages, just the branch of the family that ended with my father (on the chart). There is a good chance that Henry is on one of the pages I did not copy.

Good Luck!

David Yundt

I am searching for any information concerning Henry Yount. Born PA 30 Oct 1814, and married to Deborah Dougherty in 1839 Vermillion Co. IN. She remarried Abraham VanVranken in 1852, Platte Co. MO. after Henry died c. 1845 in Missouri.
Unfortunately, this Henry died right before the 1850 Census. The 1840 Census does show a Yount or two, but I cannot find any proof as to which Henry is showing. The Twombley family is also connected to this Yount clan, if anyone needs help with that family.
Information for this branch of the Yount/Jundt family is sketchy. Does anyone have any help???
Thanks in advance,
Bob Vaughan, Clovis, CA
jandb41@sbcglobal.net

Early Younts left Neiderbronn near Strasbourg in Alsace, France in the early 18th century. My family left there in 1731 and came to Pennsylvania. Others stayed on in Alsace and later moved to Russia near Odessa. They went to there as Catherine the Great offered them free land and religious safety (the were Protestants) about 1800. Later the political situation changed and life became miserable. There is a JUNDT Family book about this I bought last fall from Amazon.

If you are talking about The Yount Family of Europe and America by Edith Warren Huggins, I believe you should take it with a grain of salt. A family, Hans George Jundt, wife
Anna Maria and four children (Jacob, Hans George, Maria Elizabeth and Johannes) arrived in Philadelphia on the ship Britannia in 1731. The name on the ship's manifest is copied as Gunt, Gundt, or Jundt by most researchers. As to the brother Andrew as mentioned in Huggins's book, I would question that. The record of baptisms in the Lutheran church in Niederbronn list the family that travelled as well as 3 children that died. There is, however, no mention of an Andrew as belonging to this family. The likelyhood of an ironmonger's child staying in Alsace to study music and when arriving in America, became a farmer seems not plausible to me.
Much research has been done in the last 20 years, so it is possible that Huggins's work has been superceded. Also there were a large number of Jundts in Switzerland. My line is Hans George, Hans George, John, John Jacob Simone, John Simone, Martin Victor, Arnold Joseph and our branch spells it Yundt. I believe, if I remember correctly, the other two brothers became Yount.

Yes, this is the same Luther Washington Slater. Although four generations apart we are second cousins. He and "Mollie" Yount had a daughter, Effie Louise. Mollie died giving birth to their son, Howard D., who also died. He later married his second cousin, Margaret Prentiss Slater, and while living in Washington, DC, they buried two infants in the Congressional Cemetery.

His was one of the first Slater burials that I came upon during my first visit to New Jerusalem/Union Cemetery in Lovettsville.

I've copied his some of his military records at the National Archives. What information are you looking for?

Pam Carlton

Teresa - I am researching the Stiegel line for my daughter and have come to a dead end. Her husbands Mother was Emily Jane Stiegel, daughter of William Franklin Stiegel. She was born in Bluefield, W. VA in 1927 and had a twin brother named Billy Stiegel. I know she was a descendant of Henry Wilhelm Stiegel. However, I don't know the parents of Wm. Franklin. Do you have any information that may be of help to me? If so, please email me at tttolson@tx.rr.com
Thanks,
Dee Olson

What is your connection to Charles? Sorry, I don't have the will. The original poster has it and I do not believe I ever received a response from that person. It should be readily available in the Virginia archives though. What I do have is a Henry William Stiegel descendant genealogy book published in 1977, and two books on Henry William Stiegel. Contact me offline and I'll see how I can get you copies of what you might need from them.

Dave Gracie
jdgracie@yahoo.com
