My grandfather is Peter Benjamin Zaabel (Zabel) who was in the Prussian calvary. I have been searching for information and think I have some clues for this board.
First, I have these burials of Zabels. In the Trinity Lutheran Church cemetary in Mecan Township, Marquette County, WI Frederick August Zabel DOB 7-12-1859 to 1-12-1887
Christopher Zabel DOB 1-21-1821 - 12-02-1889
Henreitte Zabel DOB 11-11-1828 to 12-31-1909
Harris Cemetary, Harris Township, Marquette County, WI
Albert Zabel 1872-1942
Ida Zabel 1875-1960
St. John's Cemetary Marquette County, WI Hwy 22 and CTHE
G.H. Friedrich Zabel gestorben 5-27-1877
Carl F. W. Zabel Gest 3-12-1887
Reinhold G. Zabel 1884-1939
Lydia Zabel 1888-1969
Caroline Zabel nee Hallender 1850-1929
Wm. Zabel 1848-1921
Above Caroline and Wm. are parents of Albert Zabel
Marriage Albert Bliefnick DOB 3-28-1914 married Vida Zabel in 1934
On Ancestry.com under Civil War Pensions for WI
Carl Zabel also known as John C. Zabel
Widow is Anna W. Zabel
Burials in Trinity Lutheran are on the site of the 2nd marriage of my great-great grandfather Carl Wilhelm Zerbel, his granddaughter Hulda Zerbel married Peter Benjamin Zabel.
If Carl Zabel was a general in the Prussian army and my grandfather was in the calvary in the Prussian army and these burials (a small, small cemetary) it seems are for the brother of Carl Zabel, Christopher Zabel. Who knows more about Carl Zabel? My grandfather seemed to be dangling around, not attachable to any group, but if you were a deserter from the Prussian calvary and your relative were a general in the Prussian army, you might not disclose much information, either. Just a guess.
Can anybody help? Fairwater, Wisconsin is not very far from Manchester, Wisconsin and my family had associations there as well. My grandfather lists his mother and father as John Zabel and Anna Hinz on his marriage certificate. He emigrated in 1894.
