Hello,

My biological fathers name is Joseph Leo Zable. My mom is Teresa Schultz. She changed my name at the social security office when I was very young. She has never given me much info. I know his name(Joseph Leo Zable), and thatg he lived in or near Phoenix, Az. I searched for him and found some info. with a litchfield Park, Az address but it was only a P.o. Box and never was able to get any response. My mom told me that I had at least one sister named Christy. And that joseph liked boats or had a boat. I am currently 30 years old born in 1979 in Phoenix, Az. Please contact me because this sounds like we have some things in common.

Trying to find information on her early life. She immigrated June 3 1856 to New York. I have nothing on her from then till she married John Sommerville in Summit, Waukesha, Wisconsin on October 12 1860. The only thing that I know is that she had a daughter, Augusta Louisa who was about a year old, when she married John. Don't have anything on her first husband, father of her daughter. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Bob

yes I have used this data base in the past. I was also able to get the medical records of Bertha who was my grandmothers birth mother. Interesting read when she was in the mental hospital. I also have found the birth certificates of William/Wilhelm on line from Germany.
The Family History site has some of these records on line
(Morman Church) they may have the birth certificates for you side of the line. If you want, I can email what I have scanned.
Shelly

I have been researching this same family. He had a child named Adolph who may be a cousin to my great great grandfather. I have been trying to research a story where Adolph's father William or Wilhelm sponsored my Great grandfather Carl and his wife Ernestine coming to america. I am trying to find more information on Carl and Ernestine. i figured that if there is any truth to this that I may be able to find out more by getting back a few generations thru this line. I was able to use a very good database for research of anyone who has family who lived in the Rice county Minnesota area.

www.dalbydatabase.com

I have found obituaries for Willhelm(William) Zabel both Wives Bertha and Amelia Zabel. There is information on parents children how Bertha died. Location of grave markers. It has been a very interesting read. This may be of use to you. I see that this post is pretty old and you may have already found this. In this case please let me know if you have found anything.

Reading this entry just made me start to think hard...a lot. I haven't done much geneology research as of late (due to a lot of other things going on in my life) but your entry made me think.

You mention Zabels (obviously)...but the names you're giving match names in my line of the Zerbel family. Almost exactly, as a matter of fact.

I'd like to know more about it. I can give you what I know...which I've discovered seems to be a little messed up. I'm going to have to go to the cemetary and do some research (if I ever get time).

Sophia ZABLE (ZABEL) immigrated to U.S. in 1858

Trying to make sense out what I have on a great great grandmother. Her name was Sophia Dorthea/Dorothea (maybe ZABLE / ZABEL. The name I think is correct, it's hard to tell as I've seen it many different ways. On an application for a widows pension she listed Doelitz Germany as her birthplace and Sepyember 24 / 25 as ner birthdate. She saig her father4s name was Fred on another form. The question is that it appears that she was married before she married my great great grandfather, John SOMMERVILLE, on October 12, 1860. In the Patterson/Pattison Family Association, they list her daughter, Augusta Louisa ZABLE, as being married to Stanford Lindsay Patterson. They further state thst John SOMMERVILLE was her step-father and that he married her moth, Sophia Dorthea ZABLE. One of the question is if she was married before, what was her married name and wehat was her maiden name? It is almost like ZABLE was her married name, although she lists her fathetr as Fred ZABLE. On some documents her maifen name is listed as DOUGLAS. It is possible that her maiden name was ZABLE/ZABEL and her first married name was DOUGLAS. Was it common that women would revert to their maiden name after their husband died or divorced them in the 1850's? Her daughter Augusta is said to be born in 1859, she immigrated from Prussia to the U.S. in 1858 so either she was married when she came or got married soon after arriving. Any information on her would be very thanfully received.

Bob

Looking for any information on a Sophia Zable (her spelling). She was born in Dolitz, Prussia (modern Germany) on September 24, 1833. She married John SOMMERVILLE in Summit, Waukesha, Wisconsin. She died in Avon, Eagle, Colorado on March 30, 1905. On a leter paper she stated that her father was "Fred". Research has foung that she might have been married before John SOMMERVILLE. One source talks about one of her daughter (Augusta) getting married to a member of the Patterson/Pattison family. In the article it is mentionmed that Sophiua was married to a John SOMMERVILLE who became Augusta's step-father. Sophia anmd John's maariage was in Summit Wisconsin on October 12, 1860. The service was offiaciated by a Reverend Enos Montague. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Bob

Hello all,

Trying to find information on a gg-grandmother that might just fit in this. My gg-grandmother was named Sophia ZABLE (atleast that is the way it is spelled on spme documents). The federal 1870 census shows she was born in about 1837. On a application for her widows pension is that she was born in Dolitz Germany, on September 24, 1833. Her death certificate states her fathers name as Fred. She appears to have married someone, then married (my gg-grandfather) John SOMMERVILLE in Summit Wisconsin on October 12, 1860. I have hit the wall on finding out anything about her before she married John. Any information or assistance on hwer will be greatly appreciated.

Bob

Bob,

I am not sure if any of my ZABEL family matches with you or hot. One of my ggggrandmothers was named Sophia ZABEL ( some accounts show her as Dora Sophia ZOBLER). She was born in Doelit Prussia on September 24, 1835 and died in Avon, Colorado on March 30, 1905. Her father was Fred ZABEL. Sophia married a John SOMMERVILLE and lived for a few years in Glencoe, McCloud, Minnesota. I am not sure exactly when she came to Mn, but is listed with her husband and children in the 1870 federal census. At this time, I really don't have anything else on her or her father.

Bob

ZABEL or ZOBLER

Trying to find out about an gggranmother. Wasn't sure of name at first. Saw a marriage notice for a known daughter of hers. The notice said the daughter of John SOMMERVILLE and Dora Sophia ZOBLER. The notices was for their daughter in Nebraska. On all the census forms that sow her as Sophia SOMMERVILLE (all the different spellings of the last name). Now I have seen references to John SOMMERVILLE married to a Sophia ZABEL. The first place I have seen her is in the 1865 Minnisota Territory and state census, all it shows is she is John's wife and mother to 5 children, no doubt some from John's first wife. The 1870 federal census shows them still in Bergen, McLeod, Minnesota . She is shown with more children an is listed as 33 years old. That would put her birth about 1847 in Prussia.

So, the question is, what is her real name?

Bob

There is an article about the August Zabel Family in one of the Hooker History book series (pub. 1983). This article was written by Sam Zabel. The article includes a picture of the August Zabel Family. Gustav and Augusta Hamm and several others of the family are in the picture.
Re: Looking for the Zabel family in Germany/Poland

Hello all,
As far as I know my family in particular changed their name Zabel to Cabel. According to my father (which isn't a real realiable source) the Polish couldn't pronounce the name properly. The family I'm looking for would the family that had Adolph Zabel as a son. I know nothing about that family except who he married. This is what I know according to documentation:
Adolph Zabel was born in 1900 and he was shot by a group of Polish men who were afraid that he and other germans would join forces with Germany. He died in 1939. He has family in curtiba, brazil. The current relatives of this family can be traced by doing a simply search with 411. Adolph married Wanda Scheffler (b. 1904) together they had four sons. One died in battle (adolph), Leo died much later of a heart attack, Auto the last remaining of this family, and Reinholdt my grandfather.

Everyone posts would be welcomed. Thanks

He was from Anaheim CA and was going on GI bill as veteran of Korea. I understand that he was killed in Mexico around the 1960s or so. I would really like to know what had happened to him. I believe he was born around the late 1920s. Thanks

Unfortunately, I know nothing about your grandfather. However, there are other Wisconsin Zabels concentrated in Marquette County and I do believe that one of their surnames was Otto. Your grandfather's middle name might be the surname of his mother's people. Our original surname was Zaabel. I can not connect with these other Zabels.

My grandfather was living near Berlin, Germany before he left for Wisconsin. It is possible that your grandfather may have been a cousin. I searched for many years for information regarding my grandfather's origins. I finally located the records and now have verified his ancestral village, the names of his parents and siblings. I now have a record of his baptism in West Prussia. Don't give up. The only surviving Wisconsin record with information was a marriage certificate.
You could also try naturalization records and a death record if you haven't already searched those documents. From there I went to the Family History Center to search European records.

Good searching.

I'm trying to see if there is a connection here w/my family. I found an Augusta Zabel, and her husband Wilhelm Karl Kruger on the LDS site. They had a daughter Hilda who was born 8-19-1896 in Portland, Oregon. She died 7-5-1946 in Portland, Oregon. I don't know if there a connection here or not to my family. Does any one have any info. on this family? I would very much welcome the help. Thank you.

Carl, Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. I am Kathys oldest daughter Angela. Your info is outdated but mostly correct. Her mom died July 8,2005 and her dad died Dec.26,1992. My mom moved to Canada in in 1972.My mom had a stroke about 3 years ago and is paralyzed on the right side of her body and can't talk much but remembers things quite well. I mentioned you and what you had replied and she remembered you and was quite excited. At that point I knew I had talked to someone she knew.If you would like to keep in contact please feel free to email me directly at lilone@shaw.ca.....Angela

I don't think we have the same Ronald Zabel. The one I am looking for is Ronald Eugene Zabel born in Dec. That is all I really know and that he was married to Kathy Louise McCalmant of Bonners Ferry, Idaho.
