I recently received a photo that I had never seen before. You can see it by visiting myspace.com/iedragon, click on 'photos' and then on 'ancestors'. It will be ID'ed as 'Early Zane-Loomis Family Photo'. It was taken circa 1911; location unknown, but I'm guessing either Ayers or Broadlands, Illinois. My great grandmother, Sarah, is ID'ed as Bessie Loomis. Next to her, on her right, is my grandmother, Mary Emma (Mayme) Loomis Zane, holding my uncle, Odell Zane; on her left, my great grandfather, Orrin Datus (O.D.) Loomis. My grandfather, Arthur Zane, stands behind my grandmother. Also in the photo are my grandmother's sisters: Olive Loomis Rayl, with husband Otis Rayl; Jeanette Loomis Parsons, with husband George Parsons and daughter Frances Parsons; Esther Loomis. My uncles Gordon and Montelle Zane, and aunt Gwendolyn Zane, are there too.

This photo marks the first time I have ever seen my great grandparents, or even my grandfather. Frankly, the resemblance between myself and Arthur is astonishing. A distant cousin, a descendant of Isaac Zane Jr (and, thus, a Wyandot), said that my grandfather looks a lot like his grandfather. This calls into question whether my grandfather's biological father was Francis Marion Collins, as his birth certificate says, or if it was really Elias Zane, my great grandfather. Curiouser and curiouser. I guess the only way I'll know for certain is to kick out the $150 for a DNA test.
