Seeking any background on ZAUGG, ZAUG, ZOG, ZOOK family name. Historically, spelling may vary widely. Immigration to America; and, importantly, the Switzerland,Germany, and Netherlands connections. I am a Zaugg by marriage. I know there is a link with Minnessota and South Dakota, via his father, Fred Zaugg (d.in the late 70's, early 80's). Married Geraldine Ro(a)thonas, 2nd generation Greek in South Dakota. When, and who was the 1st US immigrant. I have a faint link of information, indicating the Zaugg name traces to the early 1300's in Switzerland--and there are many Swiss Zauggs today. I know there is a famous artist, Remy Zaugg, and a reknown athlete--sailing (?); this sailing link might be of interest, should we find we are related, since OP 2000 Sail will be HERE in the Norfolk, Virginia area in the USA, next year.! This will be the LARGEST gathering of TALLSHIPS in the World, celebrating the new millenium. ANY information welcome!!! Historical background, family Coat of Arms, origin of name --which version came first; these are especially of interest, regardless of whether in Europe or USA--the good, the bad, or the ugly. My husband, GARY, is an Officer in his ROTARY INTERNATIONAL, President of teh Board of Directors of EQUI-KIDS Therapeutic Riding Program, for physically, emotionally or mentally-challenged young people. He gives and gives to others! He asks nothing for himself and is the most honorable, unselfish, kind, neatest ZAUGG I know, and I am proud of the name, Zaugg! He is a Certified Financial Planner and President of a Full-service Financial Planning and Asset Management Firm, with a specialty in Sophisticated ESTATE and TAX Planning and has clients from across the globe; as his practice reaches worldwide. (we are building his WEB site and its URL will be ready in near future: www.raymondjames.com/zauggfinclgrp).
He knows nothing of his family history nor geneology, and wishes he did, so we could pass the treasure of a heritage down to our grandchildren. I WOULD LIKE TO GATHER ANY INFORMATION TO SURPRISE HIM!!! FURTHER, ONCE I KNOW HIS ROOTS, I HOPE/PLAN TO TAKE HIM ON A JOURNEY TO MEET DISTANT RELATIVES, AND TOUR THE LANDS FROM HIS FAMILY'S PAST. I know this will mean the world to him--and, it is my hope and sincere prayer, that God will somehow lead respondents to this web posting, and that, in the least,
Gary can be given the GOOD Earthly HERITAGE he deserves. Thank God, he HAS a Heavenly heritage through Faith....Thank you for any help or leads you can share.... Isaiah 29:11-13; John 3:16. God bless you and yours, everywhere. Kitty
