BROOKFIELD, Ohio – John I. Zdelar Sr., 88, passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, Aug. 22, 2011, at Liberty Health Care Center.
Mr. Zdelar was born on Feb. 10, 1923, in Farrell, Pa., the son of Stephen Palisak and Helen (Rataic) Zdelar-Palisak.
John attended Brookfield Schools and had worked for G.A.T.X. in Masury, Ohio as a welder for more than 19 years.
For over 75 years of his life, he was a dairy cattle and beef farmer on his family farm of which he was very proud of and was known for keeping immaculate farm fields and fences as well as his landscaping around his families home.
He was a member of Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Vienna, Ohio the Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge No. 126 in Farrell, Pa.
In his leisure time he often enjoyed listening to Croatian music, various Polkas, wood carpentry and working with his Farmall Tractors.
John will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of more than 57 years, the former Mary Yazvac, whom he married on Nov. 28, 1953, in Draganic, Croatia; two sons, Joseph Zdelar, John Zdelar and his wife, Kimberly, all of Brookfield, OH; two sisters, Mary Hubish of Brookfield, and Pauline Yasnowski of Sharpsville, Pa.; three step grandchildren, Paige, Seth, and Evan; four nieces and nine nephews; and by several great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In accordance with John’s wishes, a private funeral service will be held on Friday, Aug. 26, 2011, at the Madasz Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Denis Bouchard officiating.
A private burial will follow at Brookfield Township Cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy any contributions may be made John’s memory to either Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church or to Hospice of the Valley Trumbull County, Ohio Chapter.
