I have traced my family back to by Great Great Grandfather Semuelis(Samuel) Gelaznikas in Lithuania. There are two spelling variations of the last name: Gelaznikas or Gelazynkas. My Great Grandfather was a blacksmith so I've assumed that the last name is derived from the Lithuanian word for iron, geležis. It might also be possible that the name was Lithuanianized from the Polish word for iron, zelazny, hencing becoming Gelaznykas. Any thoughts from the Zelazny family? Anyone with family that have been traced backed to the early to mid 1800s that moved to Lithuania? Like I said, this is a shot in the dark. Thanks.
