New to this but just starting to look into my wife's family history. Her dad was Andrew J. Zerbe born in 1918 in Tower City, PA. I think he had a brother Joseph and a sister Anna as well as at least one brother still in Eastern Europe. He joined the army in the 1930's and served in the Pacific. Ended up in the Air Force and retired in Montgomery, Al. where he died in 1962.

Up to now the only thing I have found is the social security death index entry. Has anyone come across Mr. Zerbe?

Ted,
Do you have a copy of the death certificate of Frank L. ZERBE, 1901? I found it in Buchanan, Berrien, MI. Did John B. Zerbe's wife, Marie SMITH, die in MI shortly after they moved there in 1878? I have many Zerbes from Stark Co, OH, but don't know if any went to MI. There very likely is a connection.

Philip died of a gunshot wound to the head--one account states that he was shot by a sniper while he filled his canteen. On May 19, 1865, near Alexandria, VA, Capt. J.W.Hoffman, 3rd Div.., 9th AC responds to a letter from Mary dated May 17, 1865 saying that Philip died like a true soldier, at his post and facing the fire.

Philip's exact date and place of death are not known...nor is his burial place. It is known that he died during one of the battles of Petersburg and was buried with many other soldiers in unmarked graves....their fellow soldiers in retreat, and unable to retrieve the dead and wounded.

May I make a suggestion, call the cemetery first, and ask if they are buried there, remember not everyone got headstones, and u may find out that there is more of your relatives there also. Good luck!

I was just looking at Mark Zerbe's family history on Roots web. I noticed that for Peter Adams and wife Ann Mary Zerbee there is a note regarding a photo as a reference. Listed as title 192, author Pat Crooks. As Peter and Anna are my gr. gr grandparents, I would like to get a copy if it is possible. Does anyone know if that would be possible?

Does any one know where Cleveland Zerbe is buried? He was the adopted son of Reuben & Amanda Zerbe. I found them at Hetzel's Ch. Cemetery, but did not locate Cleveland. He is my relative by way of his blood parents Jonathan & Lovina
Heberling. Email me if ya know anything! He lived most of his life in Pine Grove,Pa (Mexico Rd.). Married 2x I think and had at least 9 children, the later wife being Elizabeth S. Fidler? Zerbe. He was Born May 30,1885 Died Nov.1963 in Pine Grove and inlisted in the service, one of his son was also Cleveland F. Zerbe, so no confusion, the son died in 2002
anything about this family I need some help! Thanks Harry!
hslj1952@yahoo.com

Yes! This is my Cleveland Zerbe! I found him in most of the census records. Oh! and I did find out where he is buried, at St. Peter's Cem, the New cemetery, so its up to pine Grove again! to look. AND Cleveland is buried where his birth Father Jonathan Heberling is buried with his 2nd wife Mary. Clevelands Adopted parents are at Herzel's Cemetery where most of the old Zerbe's are buried! Wish I know where his 1st wife Lovina Koons Heberling is buried! Thanks! All!

Thanks... I tracked Clinton down about a year or so ago, I guess.... Think there might be a spouse for Francis E. in what you sent that I was lacking... I think I have most of these death records now, I pulled about 800 or so from the LDS record search pilot program.

Are you related to the Zerbe's?

steve koons, dayton, ohio
wd8dcx@aol.com
