I have done some research on the Zettel family since my wifes cousins are direct descendants also from John Alexander and Caroline Lunn via John Alexander who married Alice Ellen Ford.

Please bear with me as this is the first time I have used this message board thingy and I hope what I'm about to ask is not bad manners as I certainly wouldn't want to offend you. Is there any chance we could write to each other through our e-mail adresses (Like Penfriends) ? if it's okay with you I'll let you have my e-mail address.is it okay to do that on here ?
I am not the Granddaughter of Alice Ellen ford, I know she had 2 Daughter's One called Alice Selina Born 13 Dec 1910 and the other called Irene Born 1914 but I've not heard of a Marie that is a new one to me ! perhaps I just haven't found her yet.
There was also a son John Alexander born 31st Augst 1916 but died in Jul 1918, No doubt you probably know all this.
Anyway let me know what you think about writing to each other as penfriends? I will understand if you do not want to

it would seem we are working on the same wavelength. It is interesting to read what happened to your g grandfather, I was told by some one in the family years ago that one of his sisters, Babette or Apelona was killed in the California earthquake of 1906, but I have no proof. I know my father wrote to an aunt Babs in LA in one of his letters around 1930s so it couldn't have been her.
From my tree your Grandmother must have been Alice Ellen (nee Ford), my contact Monty P said she had three children one of whom was Marie, you could be one of her three children!
The other sister Caroline Amelia was of course my G Grandmother who married William Logan this only leaves Frederick Charles but I expect you know all about him.
Do please contact me again I would love to know more about the Zettel's especially the Thoma connection as my wife has a Thoma in her family and its not a common surname.

My Great Grandfather was Alexander John Zettel Born Holborn Jan 1869 and died Wandsworth Apr 1944 My Mother Told me That he'd had gone to the shops to get some shopping,unfortunately he got caught in a Germany Bombing raid and was killed,Mum says she was told that the only way they could identify his body was by the sock he was wearing. How true this is we don't know as neither of us have seen his Death certificate.
My Grandfather is John Alexander Zettel born 29 July 1887 in Lambeth.

Alexander John Zettel b.11 Feb 1869 married Mary Emma Williams 18 April 1887, they had a son John Alexander.
If your name is Monty then we have already made contact !

My Great Grandfather William Logan b 1856 Islington, married Caroline Amelia Zettel in 1883 Battersea. From family information her Parents were John Alexander Zettel 1841 and Caroline (Lunn). Her brothers and sisters were Babett 1865, Apelona Sarah 1868, John Alexander/Alexander John 1869 and Frederick Charles 1871. Rumor has it that either Babett or Apelona died in the California earthquake of 1906.

We are still trying to locate relatives of Alfred Zettel. He was born in Switzerland and died in Wis. in 1903. He had a hotel in Los Angeles and was listed on the city directory for 1888-1890. His wife's name was Elizabeth. She may have returned to LA after Alfred's death. They had two daughters and two sons. One of the daughters may have been Emma Elizabeth Zettel who died in LA in 1950.

I am looking for information on the family of an Alfred Zettel the son of Josef Zettel from Switzerland. Alfred was known to be in Los Angeles CA in 1888 where he ran a hotel on Aliso Street. He apparently died about 1903. He had two sons and two daughters and at least one grandchild at the time of his death.

Andrew J. Zettel, 72, died this morning at his home, 45 Ilion street, following a prolonged illness. Born in Chepstow, Ont., he had resided in Tonawanda many years. He was a building contractor. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth, nee Hesch; four sons, W. Herbert, Cyril J. and Leonard F. of Tonawanda and Clarence E. of New York city; six daughters, Ms. Harry Kaplan and Mrs. Alvin Post of Buffalo, Mrs. Harry Stockwell of Wilson, Mrs. Edward Kleber of Belmont, Mass., and Mrs. Carl Hartley and Mrs. William Driscoll of Tonawanda; 26 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Rites will be held Wednesday morning at 8:30 o?clock from the residence and at 9 o?clock from the St. Francis church. The Very Rev. John A. Weismantel will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet.

I am looking for Jack Zettel, and his name is all I have. He supposedly married Addie Elizabeth Pottorff who was previously married to Clarence Moore of Hatfield, Missouri. Addie was born July 15,1896 in Ringgold Co. Iowa and died May 26,1985 in Thompsonville, Michigan. Addie was married at least six times, possibly more. Addie was often living in the Washtenaw Co.
