I have fallen off the ancestry searching wagon also. I am expecting baby #3, recently moved to a new state in Jan so things got a little hectic. I am so sorry to hear about your mom's passing and your health problems.

I keep meaning to get back into it again very soon also because there are so many unanswered questions. I did have a friend recommend a book to me that had some sort of connection she found in her own family and we had a great discussion. I will have to look that message up again to find the name of the book or research she was doing.
Lynn

Because I am searching for the family of Samuel Zick of possibly Nowa Kazmierka, I have been looking at all the Zick records in the Ukraine, Poland and Germany with some help from there. There were some Zicks in the Ukraine who list their POB in Rohrback. Please e-mail me at msapienza@cox.net Thank you.

It doesn't seem "your" Zick family is related to "mine."
My Martin came from near Bromberg. I'm not sure where your ancestral town is located. I do know that Zick is a name common to Prussia as opposed to other parts of Germany.
There is a Zabel way back in my tree: Christine ZABEL married my gr-gr-grandfather Michael Wegner on 10 May 1816.

I am researching family of Eduard b. abt. 1830 in Kieckow?and Caroline wilhelmina (Klessig) Zick. They lived in Oshkosh. Their children were Albert, Frank, Ida, Emma, Bertha, Anna. Have always been curious where Martin came into the family names as we have several middle names of Martin. I have been trying to connect Martin Zick of Brillion to Edward of Oshkosh.

The email you posted keeps rejecting and coming back to me, so I will try this way. Below is the message I sent.
Hi, Bruce! We are related. I am David Carl Hansen, great-grandson of Florentine (Wegner) Zick, and grandson of Wilhelmine Zick, who married Otto Laabs and lived in Oshkosh, WI.
Do you have information on Martin Zick's ancestors? I have Martin's father as Gottlieb and mother Anna Rosine Westphal, but don't have any other data such as dates of birth, marriage, or place. I go back another generation or two for Florentine Wegner. they came from Florentowo, county Labischin, province Posen. They were very close to Bromberg and West Prussia, south of Danzig about 40 miles.
There was another Wilhelmine Zick, my grandmother's aunt (sister to Martin).
I have the birth dates for Martin's siblings if you don't , and if you want them.
I have been in contact with Dick and Nancy Zick in WA. I also live in WA and we have been trying to meet in Vancouver, sort of between where we live.
Unfortunately, I have hit a wall on my ancestors and can't find any other info on them. Apparently the Wegners came from nearby, a place called Rohrbruch, several miles SE of Florentowo. I also noticed a place near Rohrbruch called Gross Beerenbruch, but couldn't find any further data as to older generations.
Best guess is that they migrated into Posen and Prussia from somewhere else in Germany but haven't found out for sure.
Dave

John came in the 1870's around the time of the Franco-Prussian War and worked at a cheese factory in WI.
I am also looking for informations on the Zicks and their connections in Germany.
Thanks

Anna:)

Just thought this was an interesting thread as I'm trying to research Kozlowski/Erat/Micks family history. The name Adam Zick caught my attention as he was a signed witness on my great-grandfather's (Martin Kozlowski) naturalization papers in March 1925. Martin & his wife Mary (Erat) were members of the Grace Lutheran Church in Hop Bottom. I have pictures from when they renewed their vows there in 1955 on their 50th wedding anniversary. We also believe that Martin Kozlowski's mother may have been a Micks (Mary or Marianna?). So very interesting how they are all intertwined.

The Micks, Zick, and Klimach families all came from the same town in Germany, intermarried, came to America together, and settled into the same areas. Adam Zick's brother married a Micks, as did at least two of the Klimach siblings. They all also Americanized their names. Micks were originally something close to Michs although you'll sometimes find them as Mix now. Zick was originally Zech or Seich and it change gradually over the years before they all settled on Zick. Klimach did change to Klein. I think in Germany they may have also intermarried with the Klem family and the Arratts were connected in there somehow. My g. grandmother Mary (Marion) Zick moved north after her husband died and helped to start the Grace Lutheran Church of Hop Bottom.

My Grandmother was Ludwicka (or Ludwiga) Micks, daughter of Caroline Burkicowski and Frank Micks. She married, I believe a brother of Mary (Marion?)Klimach, wife of Adam Zick. Here is where things get interesting. Sometime before 1920 my grandfather change his last name from Klimach to Klein. His first name was Jacob (at least after the surname change.) It might have been Jacob before, or perhaps Adolph. They lived on Gilbert street. There is some relationship also with Kellers.

They were all members of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scranton.
Ottorowo is the polish name of Otteraue; Florentowo-Flötenau. Sometimes you can find Flethnau instead of Flötenau. Ottorowo is only 2 km away and is the neighbouring village. yes Rohrbruch, Kr. Schubin is Rynarzewo. Try GOV net. They show you exactly the location. You can try the german as well as the polish name. Its interesting to see the different distances between the villages.Often they were very close.
I am sure Ì will find the connection between Zick and Wegner. I feel there is one. Auguste Zick and Heinrich Eduard Wegner from Ottorowo/Florentowo and Florentine Wegner from Florentowo and Martin Zick.
Ute

I have Auguste ZICK married to Eduard Heinrich WEGNER on 3 Nov 1861, and that Auguste is the daughter of
Daniel ZICK and Anna Elisabeth RADATZ, but no dates or ages for them. I have not found a connection to Michael WEGNER and Christine ZABEL, but suspect there is connection.
My guess is that Daniel is the son of one of Martin's brothers. It was good for me to learn that Florentowo was also called Flötenau. Was Ottorowo near Florentowo or are they the same name. I know that Rynarzewo was also called Netzewald, but I have a note that Rynarzewo was also called Rohrbruch. Can you verify this?
Prussia, they immigrated to America in 1861 settling in Wisconsin. Florentine died in 1872 and is buried in Wisconsin, my grandfather immigrated with his parents age about 7yrs old.
Florentine's parents were Michael and Christine (Zable) Wegner. Martin was the youngest of six children we do not know if any of them immigrated to U.S. If we have any connection I would like to hear from you. We live on the west coast of U.S. at this time.
My ancestors came from Ottorowo/Otteraue Gross Salwin and Florentowo (Floetenau) Kr Bromberg near Schulitz. My GGGgrandparents Jacob and Eva Wegner nee Kutnik married 4.feb.1838. Their marriagerecord states that he lived in gross Salwin by the time of the annoncement his bride in Flötenau/Florentowo. After the marriage they lived in Ottorowo/Florentowo. The two villages are very close.Their son Eduard Heinrich married 3. Nov.1861 Auguste Zick. Might be there any connections? I have always thought he is connected to Michael Wegner and Christine Zabel and Florentine Wegner.Do you know the essay about the villages around schulitz by Philipp Rothe? It was written in the 30s. Many familynames are listed and the history of the villages is very interesting. Ute Trimpert,Germany

I was looking through the posting and came across yours. My great great grand father was Michael Bertrani Zick whom was married to a Louise Gorl (think that's the correct spelling). I know that he had a son whom was born in Germany in 1886 with the same exact name.

Does any of this information match up to yours?
