Please respond in two weeks if you don't hear from me. I'm on a shaky internet connection from Hawaii while on vacation. Goldye (correct spelling) Tanner married Raymond Andrew Bates. The Bates couple adopted two children, Arthur and Evelyn. I am Arthur's only child, Fredericka Mae, known today as Fredi Perry Pargeter. I have been searching for information on John Tanner and/or Mae Zieman as I have an historical significant textile dating to 1778 that belonging to John Tanner or Mae Zieman. IF it was Mae's, it came from the family that she worked for in Chenango County in 1880. Please get back to me. TU. fp

Fred: Excuse the delay. Although I have no new information, in 1900 census Mae's daughter, Goldie, was born Aug 1885 in NY, which leads to conclusion Mae married John Tanner in 1884. Have followed Mae & John thru 1930 census and WA State Digital Archives death records(A great resource).
Can you provide spouces & descendants of Goldie's two children, Arthur & Evelyn?
What is your connection?
From your response I guess that you have no information on Julius Zieman & his family?
Appreciate any response.
I haven't checked with them. If you could snoop this summer, would be most appreciative. I find Mae in the 1880 census in Guilford, age 17, working as a servant in the home of Edward P. Wade and his family. Even though census records list her as May Zuman and born in Pennsylvania, positive that it is my great grandmother. Took me years to find her, but knew she was lurking around Chenango. Also while snooping, my great grandfather was the son of M. Tanner in the 1880 census in Afton. She was born Caswell in New Hampshire and is living next door to the Caswell family. Thank you.
Are there descendants of Mae Zieman & John Tanner living in the upstate NY area around Afton-Chenango or Broome Counties?
I am spending summer in the area and could help find infromation. Have you contacted the Chenango County Historical Society in Norwich? We may be able to assist one another. John

Survivors: his mother Mrs. William Welch of Norwich (a second marriage, she was Mrs. Alice Zieman) and sister Hilda Zieman. Unable to locate any matching Welch or Zieman in 1920 census. His mother, Mrs. William Welch of Norwich, and sister Hilda of Knowlesville, Orleans, NY, survived. Unable to locate mother in 1920 census.

My great-great-grandfather,Ludwig Zink, was married to Wilhelmina Ziemann. They came to the USA from Prussia in 1881. They settled in Detroit, Michigan. Their children also were born in Prussia: Emile, Carl, August, Johannah, Ernestine, Herman, Marie and Ernest. Ernest Zink was my grandfather. Johannah Zink married Rudolph Hagen. One of their children Amelia Hagen married a Heinrich Priebe. I have recently made contact with a Carlton Palenske who is the grandson of Johannah and Rudolph Hagen. He tells me the Ziemann family I am related to, mainly reside in Toledo, Ohio. I have not yet researched this. I hope we have a connection with our Priebe and Ziemann families.

I am also searching a Herman Ziemann who went to southern MN. Parts of the information match, other parts, I'm not sure. In my tree, Herman Frederick Ziemann (b. Feb 11, 1834), had a son also named Herman Frederick (b. Nov 19, 1873). He had a brother named Carl (plus 6 other siblings). The later Herman Frederick married Anna Augusta Mielke June 4, 1911 in Raymond, MN. The dates etc. were given to me by my aunt. The children you list don't match what I have so ???? perhaps it is a miss.

Here are the 1920 and 1930 census pages for your grandmother Lucille's family! Notice that they were in Chicago in 1920, but had moved to Elgin by 1930 -- to work in a factory there?

I have a photo that I would be happy to scan and send to you. It appears to have been taken in the 1940's. It is labelled in my dad's handwriting:

"4 generations:
Grandma Folta
Emily Zeman - mother
Lucille Zeman - dau.
Baby - ?

5417 So. Winchester, Chgo"

The "baby" in the photo is actually a little girl about 4 years old. Maybe this is your mom?
Re: Zeman in New Orleans

I believe that you are related to me. There is some confusion in your listing but I think your Lucille is the daughter of Steve Zeman and Emily Folta. Emily's parents were Frank (Frantisek) Folta and Anna Novak Folta. They are my grandparents. Zeman is a very common Bohemian/Czech name that means "farmer". Folta is not so common, but also Bohemian/Czech. I know that Emily and her husband moved from the Chicago area to New Orleans, I believe in the 1930's. Emily came back for her dad's funeral in 1943 -- here is the post from the Chicago Tribune:

>>Article Text:>>>>1943-09-17Chicago Tribune (IL)FOLTA>>Edition: Chicago Tribune
Frank Folta, late of 5417 S. Winchester avenue, >>beloved husband of Anna, father of Rose Kubica, Emily Zeman, Lillian Brownlow, Lucille Zeeb, and William. Funeral Saturday, Sept. 18, at 8:30 a.m., from chapel, 5112 S. Western avenue, to SS. Cyril and Methodius church. Burial St. Adalbert's. Pros. 4758.Copyright 1943, Chicago Tribune. >>For permission to reprint, contact Chicago Tribune.>>Record Number: 19430917dn065

A whole lot of Raymonds, Lucilles and Irwin/Erwins in this line. I can send you some census pages from the Chicago area if you are interested. Here is one from 1910 that shows Frank and Anna Folta, with all their kids.

I lived across the street from them in Big Lake from about age 6-10. I was in the same grade as Bruce (who I guess would be your dad or uncle!), and we graduated together in 1975. Whose daughter are you... Bruce, Roger, Marlene? I spent quite a few days at that house and around the neighborhood playing with Bruce and our other neighborhood friends, Bill Nelson, Clyde Stein, Bruce Schapfield(sp?), and others. I don't remember much about your grandparents, even though I obviously there were around when I was over to the house; I can still kind of picture Paul; he seemed old beyond his years, I'm sorry to say. I can't think of any relatives names.

What's Dad/Uncle Bruce up to? I would love to exchange emails with him!

Jay Baldwin
Bloomfield Hills, Michigan

I don't know if I am related or can help, but here are some names of Ziemans from your area that I know. My father Lawrence W Zieman was born in North Dakota, he always spoke of Minnesota Ziemans. His father was Gustaf Zieman, died aprox 1924, I believe he had a brother Albert and Heine? and one sister who died in 1938 in Minnesota. Their parents where Michael and Henrietta?.I know that Michael and Henrietta lived in Minnesota. Do you know of any of these?

I am looking for a friend who stood up in my wedding in 1975. Her name was Marlys Johnson and she was from Lamoure. She was married to Mike Denny and they went to USD in Vermillion SD. She moved to Fargo after the divorce and went to NDSU. I think she became a teacher. Do you know her or where she is?

Pam, I don't know if you are related to our Zieman's or not, but here is some info you may be able to connect with: Ferdinand August(?) Zieman born in probably East Prussia, married to Amelia Auguste Reich(?) in Prussia. Had a daughter, Amelia Auguste - born abt. mid 1860's in Prussia and came to the US as an infant and moved as a small child across the country to St. Paul area, MN (possibly New Ulm area). There were more children but I know nothing about them. Amelia married to Johann Moritz Ewert in probably early 1890's and had six children: Otto, Albert, Lydia, Clara, Emma, and Martha Helene. Martha married to Herbert Howard and had four children: Herbert, Audrey, Richard (Dick), and Carol. Richard (my husband-passed on in 2000) married to me, Barbara McNeal, and we had : Richard, Jr., and Eric. My mother-in-law wasn't real close to any of her relatives (Zieman's). Grandma (Amelia Auguste) supposedly died in the St. Petersburg State Hosp. around 1948(?). Hope you can connect here somewhere. Regards and please let me know one way or the other. Barbara Howard

Hello Pam,
I came across your search as I was searching for history on the family when they lived in Howard, South Dakota. That's where my Mom (Alma) and her twin sister (Elda) were born.
They were your fathers only sisters.Elda died at the age of 11 from Diptheria. My Mom passed away on June 10, 1984.As far as I know, I don't think any of their siblings are still alive. It seems to me, that I remember reading the obit from the last remaining brother, (Uncle Ray or Rinehart-his given name) within the last few years. I do recall my mother saying that Grandpa Zieman arrived at the age of eight from Germany and that he was orphaned and adopted by the Zieman family.Feel free to e-mail me if you would like to.
Bye for now,
your cousin Alma

Fall Creek, WI Ziemanns

Looking for any information on my Ziemann ancestors from Wisconsin. My ancestor came to the US approximatly 1870 supposedly to avoid conscription in the Franco-Prussion War. Ferdinand Ziemann was born 3 Feb 1840 in West Prussia, Germany. He died 2 Aug 1901 in Fall Creek, WI. In his application for naturalization he cited that he had been a subject of the William of Germany.

Ferdinand married Wilhelmiene Bruesewitz. Wilhelmiene was born 21 June 1854 in Pommern (possibly Sabes), Germany. She died 16 Sept 1934 in Fall Creek, WI. It is possible that they came together as a married couple or seperately as I don't know where or when they married. Wilhelmiene's mother and at least one brother, Henry, also settled in Fall Creek. They are all buried at St. James Lutheran Church.

Ferdinand and Wilhelmiene had 5 children: Julius (who stayed in Fall Creek and operated a bank and a Hardware store); Gustave Henry Ziemann (b. 1877 in Fall Creek) who settled in Southwick, Idaho: Herman (b. 1880 Fall Creek and never married, d. 1934 Southwick, Idaho); Amanda Ziemann Sizer (b. 1881, d. 1902 left one son who lived in Texas), and Adelheid (b. 1883, d.1885 in Fall Creek).

Gustave Henry Ziemann (parents Ferdinand Ziemann and Wilhelmiene Bruesewitz) was born 3 July 1877 in Fall Creek, WI. He died 23 May 1934 in Lewiston, Idaho. Gustave married Wilda H. Keeney (they met in Kendrick, Idaho). Wilda H. was born 31 Mar 1886 in near Brownsville, Oregon. From approximately 1906 on they operated Ziemann Brothers Store in Southwick, Idaho. They had the following children: George Allen, Daniel, Jane, Warner "Ike", and the twins Robert and John.

I just started researching my family so bear with me.
What I do know is my p. grandmother was Margaret Tefelski Zieman Moldenauer. 7 July 1914 - 30 March 1998. She had four children - Erwin (Bud) (No children), Barbara (Zieman) Norton (2 children 2 grandchildren), William Zieman (just me) and Robert Zieman (2 children 4 grandchildren).
She remarried after being widowed, but never had children under the name Moldenauer.

I also believe her mothers maiden name was Lachmund

I believe they all had the same father, Albert Zieman, and that generations back the spelling of our name went from two "n"s to one for some reason I am unsure of. Any one who would like to send me information is more the welcome, I would appreciate it and if there are other questions I like to help if possible

Deb
deb.zieman.schill@earthlink.net

Zieman from Poland - and not Germany - is quite unusual, but we think we have the answer. This Stanley is found in the 1930 Detroit, Michigan census and is probably the nephew to our Leon John Krzemienski, who formally changed his name to Zieman. Would love to contact any direct descendants of the children of Stanley and Jane: Evelynn, Add(e)line, Stanley Jr. or George.

To get a perspective on this, please visit our website and click on the Zieman-Musnicki Clan.
Am son of Leo Joseph Zieman (b. 1910 Southhampton NY) and Ceceilia Musnicki (b. 1916 Danbury CT). Also directly knew Uncle Edward Zieman and Aunt Helen Musnicki. Have SS proof that P. Grandfather was Leo John Zieman (d. 1938) and Grandmother was Marian Theresa Ruszkowska. Likewise have SS proof that M. Grandfather was Isadore Musnicki (b. 1882 Vilnow, Poland married Vera Simchik) and M. Great Grandfather was Felix Musnicki (married Eva Regala).

High probability that Helen's father was Anthony Musnicki (CT)

Can anyone trace Leo and Marian back to Poland?
Helen Musnicki

Cousin! Can I call you cousin? I'm guessing from your email address that you're either a descendent of Helen, or are married to one.

The Helen you described was a half-sister to my grandmother Ceceilia. My father (who wrote the original message) has often told me of his mother's *cousin* Helen who married Uncle Eddie Zieman, and the OTHER Aunt Helen (known as "Cookie") who married George Ungaro and then Bill Chiriani. (Never heard the name Shelton.) She was last known to be in Phoenix, AZ and my father eventually lost all contact with his relatives, so we didn't know what became of this (your) Helen.

We had reconstructed that Helen's mother was Angela Barlovska (given as mother of Walter J. Musnicki on his SS application), rather than Amelia who shows up in the census in 1930. However, Isadore clearly ties everyone together.

One other thought - we recently learned of Frank Musnicki, half-brother to my grandmother Ceceilia. My father doesn't remember anything about him, or even the name. Do you possibly know anything about him, or even if he's still living?

You can see everything we have at our website:
http://home.comcast.net/~zieman3/familytree.htm

Click on "Zieman - Musnicki" in the right column, or type a name in the Search box.

Hope to hear from you soon,

Dick and Daniel Zieman
zieman3@comcast.net

HI IAM ALICE ZIEMAN. MY GRAND FATHER CAME FROM SOME PLACE IN GERMANY, NOT SURE WHERE. HIS NAME WAS HERMAN ZIEMAN. HE MARRIED AUGUSTA GUSA-E, THE WAY I HAVE SEEN IT SPELLED IS GUSA. HE CAME TO MINNESOTA APROX 1893. HE HAD A BROTHER NAMED KARL THAT CAME A LITTLE LATER.THEY LIVED IN THE ROCHESTER, MINNESOTA AREA ALL THE TIME THEY WERE HERE. HERMAN AND AUGUSTA HAD THIRTEEN CHILDERN. ALBERT, REINHOLD GUSTIVE DANIELLE EMMA, HULDA, DORTHY, HENERY, SAM, MARTIN JACOB HENERY OTTO. I SURE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF AND WHERE WE WOULD HAVE RELATIVES IN GERMANY. IT APPEARS THE TWO BOY'S HERMAN AND KARL WERE THE ONLY ONE'S FROM THAT FAMILY THAT CAME TO THE US. IF ANY ONE HAS INFO ON THEM OR THE HERMAN GUSA FAMILY I WOULD APPRICIATE IT. THE HERMAN GUSA FAMILY CAME IN 1885, AGAIN I DON'T KNOW WHERE FROM IN GERMANY. THANKS ALICE REINHARDT..ZIEMAN EMAIL. reintool@clear.lakes.com
