Gilbert Lynn Ziemer is my uncle. My dad, Kenneth, and Gilbert Lynn were sons of Cora (Schwartz) Ziemer.
Uncle Lynn just celebrated his 100th birthday last week and is doing well for his age. Anything you'd like me to pass on to him? He doesn't have email, but does ready large font hardcopy and writes letters most every week. His wife is still alive and they celebrated their 75th anniversary this week.

Greetings from White Bear Lake,Mn.,my name is Brad. I have started to add just a bit more on the Ziemer family that is connected to the family tree that my great aunt had done before her passing in 1979. The Ziemer I have on the tree is named Zeffa(1896-1957),and she was born in Nebraska. Her husband was Walter Stein. Not sure if you would have the two listed on your family tree, but would be interested to hear from you. Brad

I am trying to find relatives of my Augusta Schultz nee Radtke. Ludwig and Augusta Schultz came to USA in 1890 and settled in Hutchinson, MN area. Traveling with them were two Radtke's, Emilie and August, both single. I would think that they came to Hutchinson with the Schultz' family but I can not find them. Have you any Radtke info that I might find useful. Thanks

I am forwarding this query on behalf of an acquaintance looking for information on his ZIEMER relations:

"My name is Lawrence Ruhnow (Larry). My Mother was Zelma Ziemer, younger of two daughters born to Hans and Wilhelmina Ziemer. It seems my one big aim in life today is to put my Great grandmother Ziemer"s name on her tombstone. I have found some seven different spelling of Catherine, Katherine, Katrina, etc. She was buried in Lewis Cemetery near Tuscola, Illinois.

It is my understanding that you have been researching the name Ziemer. Ruth told me that you had come across some in Wisconsin. My grandfather's brother, John Ziemer moved to Glenwood City, Wisconsin as a young man. I have only a little information about him."

Please contact me if you would like to respond to Larry about his family.

I feel pretty sure that this Ziemer family came from the area of Koslin, on the Baltic sea, in Pomerania. My family comes from roughly that same area and settled in Milwaukee County and Dodge County. I have been trying for some time to connect the Ziemers from the Koslin area with mine, who are from the same area, but many of the records have been lost because of destruction at the end of World War II. I had correspondence with a distant cousin of these Ziemers a few years back -- I think that one of the Kewaunee Ziemers was Caroline, who married his ancestor's brother. I am sorry, I am not at home and don't have the whole story in front of me. More soon. P.Z.F.

Selected Letters of Mary Antin. (book review)

ed. Evelyn Salz. Syracuse: Syracuse UP, 2000. xxv + 160 pages. $29.95 cloth.

reviewed in MELUS, Winter, 2001, by Roumiana Velikova

Hi Allan,
In your posted message of 16 June 2002 you asked whether any letters to/by/about Mary Antin and/or Amadeus Grabau might be available. Evidently a book of them (see above) has recently been published. I am not a Grabau relative, although I do have some ancestral connections to Bergholz/NY (near Niagara Falls airport) which was founded in 1843 by followers of J A A Grabau, ancestor of Amadeus.

Best regards,
Mike
Rob-I've corresponded with you before about the Ziemer family and connections between Kossuth County, Iowa and Martin County, Minnesota. In the Methodist Cemetery at Fenton, Iowa, there is a marker for Wilhelmine Auguste Yandt, b. 31 Aug 1831-d. 19 Dec 1906. It indicates she was born in Schlonwitz, which I believe is in Pommern. Wilhelm Yandt was her second husband, Freitag her first. Some information has her from Kreis Belgard in Pommern.

After years of searching I just found my grandparents on their ship manifest.

Does anyone have any connections to the following who came over from ? to Port of Baltimore on Steamship Stuttgart May 5, 1892:

Wm. Ziemer age 30
Albertina age 27
Paul age 4
Anna age 2
George age 6 months
Herman Schultz age 32
Amelia age 25
Paul age 5
Herman age 2
Augusta Ziemer age 21

William, Augusta, and Amerlia were siblings. They all ended up in Peoria, IL for a while. There are ZIEMERS in Pekin Cemetery which is very close to Peoria, but I can't make a connection to them either.

Any help is appreciated
