Sandy,

I believe we have corresponded in the past. I wuld love to solve the mystery of the John McCormacks in SWVA.
I have no record of the marriage of John McC and Margaret Stapleton. They were probably married in Rusell Co. Those rcords were destroyed . I do know by deed records and census records that "my John & Margaret' are well documented in Wash Co, Russell Co,and later in Rush County ,IN.
Many years ago Alice Moore sent me copies of her resarch.I do not necessarily dispute it,I am only trying to sort the 3 John McC in the area 1790-1820.
I am descendent of John and Margaret and am certain John and Ann represent another couple.

What still puzzles me: proof that the John McC who married Ann Armstrong is indeed the s/o William and Agnes.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Jean

Hello cousin. Yes, Alice was a wonderful researcher. My brother corresponded with her for many, many years starting about 40 years ago (when he was just in junior high school) up until her passing. Actually met her a few times as well. I have copies of a lot of her paperwork now that one of her nieces sent me, although we didn't locate the shade (yes, a window shade) that she used to write the family tree on. That would have been special. Anyway, I do have a John McCormick as Lucy's brother. Their parents were William & Agnes Adams McCormick, correct? I don't have any info on your John except for a wife, Ann Armstrong.

Sandy Zion-Anderson

I noted this message and wanted to reply. Many years ago I corresponded with Alice Moore. She was a great help to me at a time when I was starting my research.
My ancester, John McCormack lived nearby and I believe he was the brother of Lucy.

John named his first son Zion and first daughter Lucy. While this might seem just a coincidence, when John and his family relocated to Indiana in the 1820's a Zion nephew was a part of the group moving.
I end in 1749 also. I haven't been able to find any information going back beyond that. I have the 2 volume set of "Early Settlers of Lee County, Virginia" which is where I found some of the information. Sandy Zion Anderson has a great deal of information on the Zion family. Lavina Zion was my 3rd great grandmother. I would be happy to swap information on the Zion family with you.

Hi Sandy,

My name is Sandie Hirt. I was just into Iowa GenWeb and found a query in the 2005 queries in which you made a reply on someone who is trying to find information on Jacob Zion. I tried to post a query and a box came up asking me for a user id and password. I do not have one and do not know how to get one. Would you be so kind as to educate me on this?

My 2nd Great Grand Aunt, Emoline Thompson married in 1850 to Alexander Zion b. 1825 in Va., son of Jacob Zion and Catherine Fleenor. There are several submissions on the lineage of Alexander. His parents were: John Zion b. 1764, d. 1864 and Lucy McCormick 1772-1854.

I have a picture of Alexander and Emoline. However, right now I am in Fla. and won't be back to my home in Mi. until 5 Apr. 2008.

Can you tell the person who wrote that query to contact me at 1) sandiehirt@yahoo.com; and 2) after 5 Apr 2008 at: sandraelliott@comcast.net and I will exchange info with her.

Thank You for your help,
Sandie Hirt

Hello- you mave have this already but if you don't- It is believed that John was from the Zinn family of Germany. It is also possible that Johann Philip Silor (Sylor) (Zion) is the father. Dates of birth range from May 3 1744 to Aug 1767. Places of origin- Bas-Rhine France, Brienbach (?) to US destination- Augusta Va. I would be interested in any info on John's parents as well. I am a descendant of the John Perry Zion line. These initials match William Early and Susan Zion. There is also a grave for Mary A. Matoy born Feb 23, 1844 and died May 25 1904.
Mr. Blubaugh. I do not know whether I have Jacob's will or not, I have accumulated so much info. on all these lines from VA from whom I am descended. I have legends and stories about Jacob's buried gold, etc. One was written by Donald Osborne, another descendant of Jacob Blughbaugh and Rebecca Zion Blughbaugh. Yes, I know someone keeps posting that our Jacob's wife was Hester or Esther Zion, but I pretty certain it was Rebecca. Rebecca Zion & Jacob Blubaugh's daughter Mary Blubaugh who m. Thomas Flanery in Lee County VA had a son named Zion Flanery--the youngest of five or six children. Zion's daughter was named Rebecca Jane Flanery. I would be interested in seeing a copy of the will. Thanks. cb P.S. I have other records and genealogical information on this name of Jacob Blubaugh's wife as well. Do you know what Mary Blubaugh's middle name is--could it be Mary Rebecca?

My mothers great grandmother was Rebecca Jane Flannery and my mother had a cousin who was a Ballard and I believe lived in Raytown, MO.
John W. Zion, Sr. was my 5th great grandfather. I have been doing research on this family and may have somethings to share. Sandy Zion has been the source for a lot of information that I have on the Zion family. My great uncle had done research on this family also. I also have a copy of the Early Settlers of Lee County Virginia, volumes I and II. I would be interested in how your family ties into my branch which was Jacob Zion, Lavina Zion.

George Frey

Well, that doesn't match with what we've been told (in our hand-me-down information). Course, not really sure what it was, although the info my brother and I have (from my grandparents) says it started with an S but not really sure of the rest... sounded similar to ZION. But you never know! I've corresponded with many other ZION researchers, everyone seems to have something different...

Your g-grandfather was Henry Wilson ZION? I have his parents as Harvey G. A. Jackson ZION, born 19 Mar 1853 in Lee County, Virginia and Mary Elmira KIRK (or Almara) born about 1852 also in Lee County, Virginia according to Harvey & Almara's 1880 census info, as well as Harvey's parents, Abraham Davis ZION & Mary "Polly" Sage PARSONS were also born in Virginia. I do not have Mary Elmira Kirk ZION's parentage, so not sure about her origin. Do you have any info on her?

My family's "hand-me-down" information on our ancestry was that we were Pennsylvania Dutch.... i.e. Germany or thereabouts, but our name was changed upon emigration. I've corresponded with several researchers that had the same info but we can't figure out what our previous name was (we all had something rather different) to track immigration records. That's my brick-wall!!!

John Zion and wife Mahala - IN to AR

I've come across some census images showing a John Zion and wife Mahala in the following areas:
1880 - Greene, Madison Co, IN living next door to Benjamin & Elizabeth (Moon) Zion.
1900 - Anderson, Madison Co, IN
1910 & 1920 - Yocum, Carroll Co, AR

I think that this John is the brother to Benjamin, but have no info on him to confirm. I was originally looking for the parents of an Otto Zion (born 7-18-1885 in Indiana) who married Minerva Newton (born 9-12-1900 in Arkansas). Otto is listed as John & Mahala's son in the census info.

Anyone have more info on the above people????

Sandy Zion-Anderson

My gg grandfather, Henry, lived to see four of my children. I knew five of his six kids. As far as I know, he had no daughter named Liza. His children were Cleo, Fred, Ethel Helen ( my grandmother), Claude, Edna, and Velma Jo. Do you have info on this Zion line that goes back even farther? I have some old photos of his young children, but none with him in it and I would love to have that--Thank you. Jan in Oregon
