Helen (Benko) Zoltun, 91, formerly of Clairton, was residing in Cadenvish, Vt., when she was called into eternal life Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009.
She was born to this life May 21, 1917, in Edenborn, the daughter of the late George and Mary (Folta) Benko, of Uniontown. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, John F. Zoltun. Helen was a member of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, in Clairton, where she was a member of the Quilting group. In addition to her quilting, she enjoyed dancing and following the fortunes of the Pittsburgh baseball and hockey teams, especially the Penguins. A devoted homemaker and mother, she worked as a conveyor operator at USS, Clairton Works, during World War II. Known as loving and compassionate by friends and neighbors, her greatest passion was her family. Helen is survived by her three children and their spouses, Richard (Joyce) Zoltun, of Murrysville, Janet (the Rev. Leander) Ecola, of Orlando, Fla., and Sandra (Richard) Paczkowski, of Cavendish, Vt. She was the grandmother of Richard T. (Janey) Zoltun, of Pittsburgh, Amy (Zulton) DeMichiei and husband, Robert, of Pittsburgh, Christy (Zulton) Donati, of Audabon, N.J., and Ian (Shawna) Evans, of New Market, N.H. Her devotion extended to 11 great-grandchildren, Lauren and Jon Donati, Christopher, Matthew, Andrew and Alaina DeMichiei, Jacob and Nathan Zoltun, and Emma, Ben and Will Evans; and numerous nephews and nieces. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sisters, Anna, Mary, Susan, Margaret and Pauline; and a brother, John. Surviving are sisters, Olga Galioto, of Mechanicsburg, and Leona Benko, of Uniontown. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the HART FUNERAL HOME INC., 3103 Lillian Ave., Murrysville. Funeral Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Christ Lutheran Church, Route 286 at Logans Ferry Road, Murrysville. Everyone please meet at the church. Interment in Jefferson Memorial Park, Pleasant Hills. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Care, Mt. Ascutney Hospital, 289 County Road, Windsor, VT 05089, or American Heart Association.
