Vernon Eugene Zumbrunn, the son of Walter C. and Lillian M. (Nieman) Zumbrunn was born on May 9, 1927 at Belgrade, Nebraska. He attended district 14 for grade school and Graduated Belgrade High in 1944.
On September 25, 1948 Vernon was united in marriage to Ardene Zabka in Omaha, Nebraska. As a young man he worked as a lineman for a telegraph Co. in Chicago then moved back to Omaha and worked in building materials for a couple years. Vernon then moved to Belgrade where he engaged in farming and a cattle operation for 50 years. On Thursday, January 19, 2006 Vernon passed away at the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion at age 78.
Vernon was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church his entire life where he was a church decan and president for many years. He also participated as a 4-H leader and served and chaired on many other community boards.
Vernon is survived by his wife Ardene of Albion, NE; 4 children: Allan Zumbrunn of Belgrade, NE, Terri Huss of Lincoln NE, Gale McWhorter of Detroit, MI, Kathy Sonderup and husband Mark of Fullerton, NE; 10 grandchildren; 2 sisters: Laverne Kirby of Colorado, and Elaine Reidel of Florida; 2 brothers: Lynn and Duane Zumbrunn both of California; along with many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant twin sons; 4 brothers: Dale, Glenn, Melvin, and Dean; and an infant sister.
