Kathryn Zupancic

I'm wondering if i'm ever going to find anything about my grandmothers past. I know she was born Kathryn Lucille Zupancic, then married and was known as Kathryn Larson, then remarried and died with the name Kathryn Reeves. Gilbert Reeves, her last husband was my grandfather. I know the Zupancic's were from Illinois, for she was born in Lockport. There were so many that lived there in that time frame. She was born January 1920, had a sister Viola and a brother Robert. If anyone can help me out, please let me know!!

Hi Sandi--
It's been two years since you posted this reply so I hope you still are reading these messages. I'm just now having a bit of time to catch up on genealogy searching. George Spruk, Freda's son, is my father. I'd love to hear more about any memories you have about my grandmother Freda. She was very dear to me. It's neat to know your grandmother and mine were best friends. If possible, could you respond to me on my email: carpendawebster@yahoo.com I live in St. Louis and would like to travel to meet and chat with you if at all possible.
Thanks again for responding.
Debra
Hi dmanburg. I have just found this website and noticed a message you left on 1st October 2004 concerning your Great Grandfather Rudolph Supancic.
It just so happens I have, here in Australia, an article that belonged to a Rudolph Supancic as it has his name engraved on it. I was wondering if it could be the same person. Can you give me any details of him, when he want to the USA for instance.

Also any job he might have had in Europe around 1900-1910. The date on the article fits in with his age.

My frandfather was Joseph Zupancic/Supancic on Mar 7, 1884 in Austria. His fathers name was Tony and his mothers name was Thersa Smaltp. I also have the names from a headstone in Yugo with the names Dragica Brescak and Franc Zupancic in Slovenija, Jugo. He also had a brother Franc. Not sure when grandpa got to New York but I have his original Certificate of Naturalization paper dated July 8, 1912 in Fort Smith, Ark. After getting to New York he moved to Johnstown, PA where he met and married my grandmother Mary Vargo. They moved to Hunnington, Ark had five children; Annie, Mary, Joseph, Nutral and Buddie (my father)then moved to West Frankfort, IL. I have a cousin in a town six miles from me who was the son of Perry Supancic. Does any of this help you?

LaDonna Supancic

Kimberly,
It is my belief that all these family members are related. One poster mentioned Janek... I've heard my grandmother mention that name and many other slovenian names they were related to, or knew from the old country. Several members of this group of ours, ended up in Ohio and Colorado, due to marrying men from there, and the fact that there were large communities of people from the old country.
Also, most listed Ljubljana as their home city. It was the logical place to list as where they originated from, even tho some were from smaller towns nearby.
Sandi

Very likely could be the same. However, I do believe the Rudy I am seeking would have been born prior to this date. He did have family in same place, and you know this and many families used surnames over and over. LOL So not sure if same. I think the Rudy I seek died in midwest, but not backed up by documentation yet.

My Great x's 3 Grandfather John Zupancich born in Austria 4/1863 married Mary Bluth 7/1866 of Austria then moved to the US to the Illinois (Will County) to have 9 children. My grandmothers name was Kathryn Zupancic. If you have any information, please email me.
Thank you!

Hello. I am unsure if you are still looking for information about Rudolph Supancic; however, my great grandfather's family was from Austria and he was born in the Spring of 1908. His last known relative, sister, lived in Walsenberg, CO. He was born in a mining town and lived and died in California. Could this be whom you are looking for?

Hello,

I am looking for information about my great-grandmother, Mary Zupancic. This has been a hard search since my grandfather passed away when I was young and Mary Zupancic is a common combination of first and surname in the Gottschee region.

Information I have about Mary:
Born 15 Feb 1890 in Gottschee Region (not sure the village),
Arrival in New York: ~1905,
Marriage to Joseph Petsche (my great-grandfather): ~1909,
Moved to Cleveland, OH before 1913 (birth of my grandfather is 1913 in Cleveland),
Children with Joseph: Emma, Alfred, Harold, Joseph, Elenore,
Marriage to Frank Mihalak (after Joseph's death): ~1938,
Death: 14 Dec 1973 in Cleveland, OH.

Other possible information:
May have lived in New York from 1905 to around 1913,
May have married Joseph in New York (couldn't find record),
Last name may have been spelled differently.

I do not know if she had siblings or parents that came to USA. I am really trying to find information about her parents so I might be able to continue with that branch of my family tree. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Sandy:
I just started researching my family this year. I was excited to read your comment about a pix of the wedding of John Spruk and Katherine Supancic (I have her listed as Katie if this is the same family I'm researching.) My great grandfather was Frank Spruk, b. 27 Jan 1902 in Slovakia or Austria. Was this your John's jr. brother? I have a census showing the person who may be your John born in Austria to John Spruk and Anna Cerne or Cherne in 1894. This 1910 Census has the John Spruk, sr. family living in Ross, Cherokee, Ks. Other children besides John Jr. and Frank were Mary b.1903 in Austria; Criste b. 1903 and Rose b. 1905 in Kansas.
Does any of this match your family? If it does, I'd beg to get the pix you were talking about. I'm so sorry I wasn't working on this years ago when your conversation started.
My father is George Spruk and mother is Sylvia Spruk still living in Pittsburg, KS. I live in St. Louis, MO
PLEASE write back!
Debra Spruk Carpenter
carpendawebster@yahoo.com
314-503-7973

Mary Brinsky was my cousin (second cousin?)
Mary (Zupansic) Koncilia was my (great?) aunt. My grandma
was Katherine (Zupansic) Knepp. She lived in Pueblo, Colorado. My mom is Katherine (Knepp) Parker.
Are you related?
I remember going to Canyon City, Colorado once to see Aunt Mary's "farm". My brother was 8 and I was 10. At that time we lived in Pueblo with my Uncle, Frank Knepp
You know, I've been checking these message boards every so often hoping to find some relatives who we've lost all contact with. so, although I was sad to hear about Mary's death, I was really excited to find someone out there.
We moved from pueblo back to California in 1958 and havn't been back since. We hear from my cousins, Joyce and Marilyn each year around the holidays, and that's the only contact we've really had from family there in Colorado.
would you email me and let me know if i'm related to you.
If you'd like any updates on this part of the family, l'd be more than happy to fill you in.
let me know, really, ok?
Kathleen (Parker) Anderson

Request for Family Coat of Arms for Zupancic !

Not quiet sure as to do this so here we go. I recently married and now my last name has changed. As a surprise to my husband I would love to paint a Zupancic Coat of Arms and frame it for our walls next to my Coat of Arms. I just need a good picture of what it looks like so that I can have a "guide" to go by. And it would be a REAL surprise to have family connections to the Zupancic's. Soooo,,,here is my question. Can anyone provide me with a picture of the Zupancic Coat of Arms or Crest ? AND has anyone done the genealogy/family lineage on this surname that is on this message board ? Thanks to all who may help !! Hugs from the Misty Mountains of Tennessee, USA !

Re: Zupancic in Cleveland

Hi, Hmm I also had a great grandmother who ran a boarding house in Cleveland -from Yugoslavia. Her daughter -my grandmother was named Molly Emma who married William Zupancic also from Yugoslavia, somewhere close by the northern part of the border. William or "Bill" and a brother whom we called Uncle Doc - he was an MD. Both now deceased. Bill & Emma had an only child, my mother -Frances Zupancic. Trail ends there for William Zupancic. He sometimes shorten his name to Zupp for easier convenience. Bill & Emma along with Doc & several others moved to California after my mother moved here & got married. Would appreciate hearing from anyone knowing anyone or anything to this relation.

Hi, Cathy.

I'm looking for information about Joseph Zupancic who ran a boarding house in Cleveland with his wife, Frances. According to the 1910 census, he had 21 non-related people living in his home!! One of whom was a relation of mine.

This Joseph was born in Austria in about 1869, and Frances was born in about 1864 in Austria. Their daughter, Frances, was born in Austria in about 1896.

If this is any connection, please contact me at Krapenc@hotmail.com And if you put "Zupancic" in the subject line, I'm far less likely to delete your message!

Thanks,

Jim
Re: Zupancic ancestor

I knew a Zupancic family in Chicago during the 40s and 50s. The father was Joseph who died in 1/50 and was married to Amalia. They lived on Lawndale Ave and had two sons, Joseph and another older or younger (?) son who may have been named Rudy. He was not married at the time but may have been divorced. Joseph had three daughters, Arlene, Joanne and a third (?). The Joseph who died in 1950 may have been related to my grandfather as a cousin. Have not been able to determine the relationshiop. This Joseph may have lived in Ohio when he first emmigrated to this country.
Any info would be appreciated.

I was interested in your post. My G-grandmother was Emma Zuponcic or Zupancic. She was born 2/1906 and died 1/1984 in Cleveland OH. She married by G-grandfather Harvey Krieger who was also of Cleveland. Do you think she could be related to your Frank Zupancic? Any help would be appreciated.
In the late 1940's on Northern Avenue [across the street from the steel mill] there was a Knafelc family and a Zupancic family. Gary Knafelc is a Green Bay Packer Hall of Famer who also attended the Univeristy of Colorado. I think one Knafelc family still lives in Pueblo, Colorado. Be having a great day......
