Unfortunately, I dont know the names of his brothers - all of them have emigrated to the US before WWI. Their parents: Michael Zupko (born around 1848/50) and Mary/Maria Slezak.
Hello

I'm writing from Hungary. My great-great grandpa was Michael Zupko (his wife: Theresa Drotos), born July 8, 1876 in Hungary (city: Edeleny, county: Borsod). All of his brothers have emigrated to the US. I am searching for their great-grandsons who are my relatives. Additional info: the parents of M. Zupko (and so his brothers') Michael Zupko (born around 1848/50) and Mary (or Maria) Slezak or Slezsak. If You have such ancestors or have any useful info, please contact me at: jafetie@gNOSPAMmail.com (please remove the appropriate part of the adress).
I needed to add two things.

The William I mentioned lived in NJ. Second, I don't have information on his wife or children, so it is very possible that the William you mentioned could be a junior, but I am not sure. Mary and William were both common back then too. I realized I didn't add this though, so I wanted to make sure I did that.

Juraj is George, correct? Do you have a birthday for Juraj? I believe that the dates could very well make the Michael Zupko and George brothers. I know there is a lot of information out there on Michael Zupko's line, but he is not our direct line, but the dates, rarity of the name, and even locations would make me think they are related in some way.

We may be related somehow. My Great Great Grandfather is a Jan Zupko (Zubko). He married a Mary Yatczko (sp?). They had 9 children: Michal b.1879 in Lomnica, Sacurov, okres Vranov, Zemplen, Slovakia is my Great Grandfather. Other children included Maria, Helenne, John Alzbeta, Juraj, Zuzanna & Anna.
Michal married a Suzanna Kocherha (Kochera,Kucera), appox 1907, daughter of Michal Kucera & Maria Cvejkus (Swacus). They resided in Byseville, Ohio - near Pleasant City Ohio and then in Akron, Ohio when mining work disappeared.
Do you think there is a connection somewhere? Would love to hear back from you.
Mary Wozniak
Hi Alicia, I do not believe we are directly related however, my mothers maiden name is Zupko. Oddly enough, her first name is Stephanie. It is quite unusual that your Grandmothers name is Stephanie also. That was a very unusual name back when my mother was born. Currently she is 70. Stephanie's parents are Ann (Panchak) & Michael Zupko. They lived in Akron, Ohio but both families I believe came from Pleasant City, Ohio originally. Michael had 5 brothers and 2 sisters. Let me know if any of your family originated in the Ohio area. Good Luck on your search. Hope to correspond with you again.
Sincerely,
Mary Wozniak
Hello ,
The Zupko's that I have in my family tree are from the Youngstown/Campbell, Ohio area. My great-grandfather came from Hrabovec, Zemplinska, Zupa, Slovakia. He came to the U.S. in 1889. He ended up in Homestead, Pa. Got married. Then came to Ohio. His name was Michael Zupko. My great-grandmother came from Zalobin, Zemplinska, Zupa, Slovakia. I think she came to the states around the same time Michael did. Her name was Ann Drost Zupko. Her and Michael ended up with 13 children.
Their names are:
Ann
Mary
Helen
Elizabeth
Michael- my grandfather
George
Margret
John
Julia
Paula
Susan
Katie
Barbara Jo
I know about everyone except for Helen and John. I do know that John lived in California and had 4 children. John died before I was born, so I never met or knew any of his children. John and Helen are the last two I'am trying to find information on and to try and get to know his children.
If this sounds like your family tree, e-mail me back and I can give you more information. corgishortlegs@cs.com
I hope to hear from you.
Lou Ann Bajnok
Zupko's in PA

My paternal grandmother (Helen) was first married to a Zupko. I know of 2 sons, Michael who passed away recently in his 90's, and Andrew. Andrew took on the last name of Helen's second husband, Revak. She died in 1936 at age 49 (approx). Anyone know more?

I came across your message while looking for
information on my grandfather's half sisters:
Mary and Anna Kochera. My mother, Susan Murphy,
(maiden name Swacus) always told me George
Zupko was her cousin. George live(s)(d) in
Pittsburgh, PA. Is there a connection with
your family member?

I think it may
be your aunt (depending on her birth date
of course).
Dear Todd, I have no idea if the people you mention are in any way connected to the family I am trying to find out about. Maria Czvejkus and her sister Anna married the Kochera brothers (Michael and Andrew) and they lived in Pleasant City Ohio. Maria and Anna were born in Strazske, Zemplen, Slovakia. Maria was born 1857, brother Janos Czvejkus was born 1863 and Anna was born 1865. Their parents were Andray Czvejkus and Maria Danyo. The Kochera name is sometimes spelled Kuchera in records. This is all I know. Catherine

I just saw your 5/30 message. I have great-grandparents in the Westville, Illinois, Catholic cemetary. They are named "John and Anna Kochera". I know they "came over", but I can only get Michael John Kochera at the Ellis Island site. Please e-mail me anything you have. My second cousin, Rosie (Kochera) Ervin, has researched the Kochera's back to the "old country". I don't have a copy, but I can get one.
