Hello other FONT's:
I am carrying out research on the FONT family name from Liverpool England.
Although I live in New Zealand, my parents come from Liverpool, England and migrated here in the 1950's.
Some relatives migrated in the 1920's to USA from Liverpool and may have settled in Cleveland, OH and perhaps in Canada.
My research so far, has gone back 200 years to the end of the 18thC. I can only speculate where this family originated, but I suspect we came over in the 18thC from Ireland.
There have been other pockets of the FONT surname in England over the last 200years, for instance in Nottingham, London, Staffordshire, Lincolnshire, East Yorkshire. They are probably not related.
The name also exists(ed) in Ireland, for instance Dublin and perhaps earlier in Galway.
Some confusion over spelling seems to have occured, ie Fonte, Faunt, Fant, Fent.
I cannot be sure yet whether our name has always been spelt that way. Some of my relatives have said our surname may have been FONTE.
I cannot determine yet any Hispanic or French ancestry, if in fact there was any.
I would welcome any discussion or questions regarding my findings.
