My 4ggfather Yelverton Thaxton and family moved from Halifax county Virginia to Green and Oglethorpe counties in Georgia after 1800. Yelverton was in the War of 1812 and was awarded some bounty land in Monroe county for his service. Yelverton, his wife, Dicey, and children moved to the area in the northern part of Monroe county, near Henry county in 1820. In 1825, he was appointed, along with several others, as a county commissioner to set up the boundries, the administration, and legal system of the new county, Butts county. Since 1900, the family has scattered to the four winds.
