Hello, I'm Johan Apelman, and I would very much like to know the origin of your surname. In Sweden there is only one, now living, family with this name.

Johan- It was very good to hear from you. In the past 3 years have tried to find Apelmans worldwide as there are only a few in USA and it appears there are more in Sweden than anywhere else as the various search engines (Yahoo, Google etc.) will show. I had compiled a list of them but lost it during computer failure. The only ones i can find are Vivianne Apelman at apelman@ios.chalmers.se and Christin Apelman at popscene@mailexcite.com. Both addresses 2+ years old.

2 years ago I went to Lviv Gorodok Ukraine to search my fathers genealogy. They had records back to early 1800s showing Apelmans in Gorodok and Brundorf all of Roman Catholic faith. I have no proof but feel that these Apelmans might have originated from a Swedish invasion of that area in the 1600s. Hope to hear from you again- Joe

Sweden?

Hello again!
It was really exiting to recieve your message. Vivianne and Christin are both relatives of mine. Christin is my cousin and Vivianne is my fathers cousin.

I woul like to mention some things about what I (my family) know(s) about the origin of the name. My grandfathers father "took the name" as we say here in Sweden. This must have been somewhere around the turn of the century. 1900, that is...

We believe that the name might have its origin on my grandfathers mothers side of the family, which came to Sweden from The Netherlands in the 16-1700's. So, we believe the name is from Holland.

Hi!
I am also looking for Apelman`s around the World. My name is Morten Apelman. I have a sister: Gro and my brother is named Per. My mother is Main Apelman.
I think we are the only Apelman`s in Norway. My father Johnny died 30/8- 00, and his brother: Knut died in July 2003.
We have a connection with the Svedish Apelman´s. I can remember their visit to Sandefjord in the sommer of the 70´s.
Hope to hear from you again!

Morten Apelman

You are not the only apelman, left. My fathers name was Martin Apelman he died in Feb 1986, when I was only 8 and half years old. He was born in America in 1920 in Chicago. Iam his daughter, although he has other children as well that have the same last name, not the same mother. Please respond and we can talk further.

Hello Morten,

Thank you for responding quickly, I'm fascinated by my anscestory, because I dont know much about it. I know that my ancestors were from Russia. My Father Martin Apelman died in 1986 at the age of 65. I was only 8 years old and my grandparents were no longer alive so they only thing that I could go by was my mother and somethings from my brothers distant memories. I have a brother Mark Apelman who lives in Colorado. He is the son of my fathers 2nd wife. He is lawyer and has two sons to carry on the Apelman name. The last line of Apelmans in my family. Iam Jodi Apelman and my mothers name is Nanette. She lives in Idaho and I live in New Jersey. Iam a 27 year old women, who is a substitute school teacher. I attend Montclair State Univerisity in Montclair, NJ just 15 minutes away from New York. Im not married and have no children.
I plan to get my bachelors degree in spring 2006 in education and I will be able to have my own classroom. I also have sister Deborah and Marloe Apelman they live on the east coast as well, they are from my dads 3rd marriage and we have not stayed in contact much due to busy life. If there is anything else you would like to know please email me. Thank you and I hope to hear from you soon...
