I would be grateful for any information regarding the Barkin family. Esp: Family of the late Sidney Barkin of Houston, Texas. Sidney was born in Latvia and came to the USA with a brother and sister who have families in Calif. and Mass. Reply by e-mail or write to 107 Harris Court, Houston ,TX 77009

I came across your message while researching the Waldstein family of Boston. All I know is that Sara Barkin, who had died by May, 1986, was the mother of Jean B. Waldstein of Brookline, MA. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your response to my inquiry. My grandfather, Sidney, had several brothers and sisters who emigrated with him. Like him, they all had strangely English-sounding first names. There was a sister named Rose and one named Lily and there may have been a Sara as well. Rose and Lily did live in the area you mentioned, actually, Waltham, Mass. The information that I really need is from the previous generation, most of which never left Latvia. Barkin is a Russian name so I don't know if there are very deep roots in Latvia, either. Thanks again and write if you should find anything else of interest.

The Boston Waldstein are mainly from Latvia and Jonava, Lithuania. I am a Waldstein from the Uspaliai and Kupiskis, Lithuania. We believe that we have made the connection between the Boston Waldsteins and the Worcester, MA Waldsteins.

My family is from Brookline, MA. Grandfather was George Barkin, married Helen Hyde. He had several brothers, one of whom was named David. I've always been told we're from Russia. I'd be interested in any family tree you've created.

I'm a descendant of boston Waldsteins and have met Jean Barkin Waldstein who was married to a cousin of mine. I was pleased to learn the Waldstein country of origin. My grandmother was Mary (Miriam) Waldstein and her nephew was married to Jean.

Hi Sam. Do you know what part of Russia your Barkins are from? I believe mine are from the Lepel/Vitebsk area.

Thank you.

Sarah Barkin was my grandfather's sister-in-law. Her husband was Sam Barkin. Jean Waldstein is my father's cousin. He is Alan Barkin

Hey Sam - are you still reading this list? I am working on a family website at Ancestry.com with Debbie Hyde Halpert.

Hope you'll get in touch.
