I can help. I am descendant of a Gottfried Bohlayer from the town of Lauffen am Neckar, Germany who arrived through New York City in 1867 and settled in Troy, PA along with two older brothers. Name was previously Bohlaier. He was born in 1850 and had two older brothers who had immigrated here previously. The oldest was Johann; the next Jacob. They all settled in the Troy area. Gottfried (name was Americanized to Fred) married a Laura McClelland and had several sons and daughters. His older brother Johann also had a large family and according to my records, he had a son John M. Bohlayer born on June 27, 1879; married Anna Pollock, and died in 1957. I don't have any indication that they had any children. There were other Bohlayers that settled in the Washington, D.C. area about the same time. Hope this helps.

I am aware of the Washington, DC, Bohlayers who are related back to a Johannes Bohlayer that imigrated from Lauffen, Wurttemburg about 1820. He married Ann Underwood and had many children and grandchildren--many of whom are buried in Congressional Cemetary in DC and documented on their site. I am a great, great, great Grandson of Johannes (who went by John in the US). Two brothers came to the US also.

I actually have a John Alexander Bohlayer b.12/5/1875 - d.1/22/1964 that was my Great Grandfather. He married an Elsie Mae Slenbaker b.5/24/1879 - d.12/4/1947. They are buried at Mt. Zion United Methodist Cemetary in Freeland, MD.
Their daughter, Catherine Tremaine Bohlayer b.9/1/1898 - 6/7/1939, married my Grandfather Walter Leon Rohrbaugh b.7/2/1898 - d.6/3/1961 on 9/2/1925.
If this is any of your family please contact me. Especially if you have information that goes before John A. Bohlayer. If you even have information about the Slenbaker family or how Tremaine came into the family let me know.
I do know that the Pullen family comes into play somehow. We think that a Captain Edward S. Pullen 1839-1891, my Great Great Great Grandfather, had a daughter that may have married a Bohlayer and had John A. Bohlayer.
Thank you,
Jeff Rohrbaugh

John Bohlayer, (1824-1861), son of Johannes, is my 3rd great grandfather, as well. He married Sarah Anne Keithley and their daughter, Katherine virginia sang with the John Phillip sousa Band. We have a photo that shows John Bohlayer as one of Lincoln's Mounted Guards, but I can't find much on the Bohlayers of the Washington DC area or anything that substantiates. I pulled up some one world chart and came up with a ton of information, but who knows about any accuracy. Pam

I am the great grandson of William Henry Bohlayer, brother of Katherine Virginia. He lived in Alexandria, VA, where I now live. His son John, my grandfather, corresponded with Katherine in Hoquiem, WA, in the 1920's and she povided much info on the Bohlayer family from family bibles, etc. My son visited Laufen am Nekar in Germany about ten years ago and was able to document the family back several centuries in Europe. The obituary for Johannes (the immigrant) states that he was with Napoleon at Waterloo. He must have immigrated shortly thereafter. He lived across from the Marine Corp barracks in Washington DC and operated a butcher shop.
