Fran: I am researching my wife's family. Her grandfather is supposed to have come to the US from Mirto, Messina, Sicily in about 1910, staying with his uncle in Phila, then moving on to Fort Wayne, Indiana. I was interested in your comment that Sgro was shortened. My in-laws swear that the name wasn't shortened. I have viewed records and the LDS for Mirto around that period and have found many Sgros, but no Antonino, son of Carmen and Grace, born August, 1894. Any information you might have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

My information is that Antonino's Phila uncle was Frank Sgro, who had come from Mirto, Messina, Sicily a few years before Antonino. Frank had a son Frank who might have moved to Michigan. We are having a heck of a time getting any information on our Sgro relatives. Hope you have better luck. Dave
