Are you working on Cassan's from Maryborough. Queens County, Ireland? My ancestor came from Ireland to Northumberland County, Ontario, Canada, in 1834 or so.

I am also searching for Cassan out of Canada, but don't know the area.
My father and his father were Edward Joseph Cassan. I believe they originally came out of Ireland, but have no proof.
Both Edwards wives were named Mary and my dad had 6 brothers.
The Cassans I am looking for, eventually located in Chicago, ILL.

Yet another person looking for Cassan info - I am trying to find information on my Grandmother's (Frances Pricilla Cassan)siblings - Her parents were Francis Edwin Cassan and Rhoda Katherine (Doty) Cassan. I know there were several siblings but only know one by name - 'Uncle Jim'. Any info would be appreciated...

I am also working on Cassan geneology. In 1834 A Capt Cassan relocated to Northumberland county Ontario Canada. He was born 1803 in Ireland, died 1892. His wife was Mary Annette Yellon daughter of Capt Wm Yellon. They were married 1802. I have much data but cannot link my Great Grandmother Jane Cassan born 1856 died 1940 married to Charles R. Muffitt. I cannot confirm which of the Cassan's were her parents.

I have not looked at my initial query for some time, sorry, just found your reply and question. I have Francis Edwin Cassan (ca1878-?) married to Rhoda Katherine Boswell (ca1880-?) on 28Nov1900 in Havelock, ON. But no info on death, burial or children ie.Uncle Jim. Have info on their parents if you need this.

Have not looked at my initial query for a long time, and just found your reply/question. There are edwards and josephs in the family but do not know how you fit in. Have you been able to get any more information? There is an Edward (ca1817-1899), parents Stephen Sheffield Cassan and Anne Elizabeth Laurenson, but do not know anything more about this Edward Joseph, his marriage, children. He had 8 siblings.

Have not looked at my inital query for a long time, sorry, just found your reply.

I have some info on your Jane Cassan and Charles Muffit. I have their marriage record for 5Jan1876 in Campbellford, On, which gives her parents as Joseph Cassan and Priscilla Stephens. Charles' parents were Thomas and Sarah Moffit. Jane was age 18, Chas age 19. Do not have any children, born, died, buried, etc. Do you think this is your family?

That may be my Great Grandfather. I haven't found out much else, except a bit on my Grandmother's side. Was that Edward Joseph from/born in Canada?

What I know of this family is from two sources, History of Commoners of Great Britain and Ireland, Vol 1, 1836-38, and Burkes Landed Gentry, 1849 (actually has a few editions over the period of years). Unfortunately, Burke only follows the heirs in the family, and since Edward is the 3rd son, he gets short shift. I have to assume that Edward and all his siblings were born in Ireland, probably Queens County or present day County Laoise or Leix although it does not specifically say that in my sources.

You may be interested in knowing that that Edward's brother, Mathew Sheffield (he was the first child)who married Phoebe Louisa Portarlington is the ancestor of Johnny Sheffield Cassan who played Boy Tarzan in the Johnny Weismeuller(Spell?) Tarzan series. As John grew too old to play Boy, he became Bomba the Junge Boy. John still lives in California is comes from a couple of generations of stage and dance personalities.

I would be interested in knowing how you think you might connect into Edward. I presume you are into the line of Cassans from some maternal marriage into the line.

Edward was one of nine children. I am sorry I do not have any more information on number 2-9. I do not even know who they married, was only able to trace the 1st child because Burke followed the inheritence line. Edward was born ca1817 and died before 1899. My wife's Captain Mathew Sheffield Cassan was born in 1803, and the migration to Ontario for a couple of his siblings took place around 1834. There are quite a number of Cassans in the US and some in Quebec, so other families took the treck also, and except for a Cassan in Florida, but I do not know how any of these tie in.
