There is only one Abraham Chalder on various census
this is the 1881 census
Abraham Chalder abt 1851 New Durham, Durham, England Head Hutton Henry Durham
Ellen Chalder abt 1850 Harrington, Cumberland, England Wife Hutton Henry Durham
Matthew Chalder Werlington, Cumberland, England Son Hutton Henry Durham

cannot find them on the 1891 census, but by 1901 Eleanor (not Ellen) was a widow with the following family.

Abraham Chalder abt 1894 Durham, England Son Coxhoe Durham
Eleanor Chalder abt 1860 Durham, England Head Coxhoe Durham
Eleanor Chalder abt 1897 Durham, England Daughter Coxhoe Durham
Elizabeth Chalder abt 1889 Durham, England Daughter Coxhoe Durham
George Chalder abt 1897 Durham, England Son Coxhoe Durham
Isabella Chalder abt 1891 Durham, England Daughter Coxhoe Durham
John Chalder abt 1883 Durham, England Son Coxhoe Durham
Matthew Chalder abt 1881 Durham, England Son Coxhoe Durham

Does this help.

yes immensely - they are in exactly the right place.
i have have enormous problems cos the family i am
tracing are hughes and davies - and difficult working
it all out - as both hughes and davies families
moved from n wales to durham - big families as
usual lots with the same name - we believe there were
brothers who moved with their families and just trying
to link up
one thing all in common biblical names.

thanks again

why dont you tell us what you know about your gran, perhaps by finding her we will find the rest of her family?

between marriage, birth certs and the census sometimes we can get some very enlightening information!

do you have your grans marriage cert or birth cert?

i can't find her birth certificate at all
she was born c 1878 - 80 and married john callan
sedgefield district 1876 - just found this and sent for
certificate.
from 1901 census brother richard 19 sister mary17
living with their mother eliza aged 41 - eliza is now a hughes not davies anymore and married to john aged 37 and children james, john thomas, and enoch hughes.
i know jane davies was born in wingate - durham.
i have been told by a cousing mary davies married
abraham chalder - of course this may have been his
middle name.

Hi vivien

I have seen the 1901 census with eliza hughes and jane davies.

I have found the following which might explain why you have problems with certs.

1881 South View, Kelloe, Durham
John DAVIS 33 head, married, coal miner. born denbigshire.
Eliza Davis 23 wife born denbigshire, wrexham
Jane davis 1 dtr born durham wingate.

this would appear to be jane with eliza.
what do you think?

hi
yes i have this - but i can't find john davies birth or
death certificate
i have eliza remarried in 1901 to john hughes aged
37 her two youngest by john davies mary 17 and richard 19 are with her - plus 3 kids by mr hughes.
jane is married by now to my gradndad john callan.
i have traced lots of hughes from n wales who moved
to this area - al lwith similiar names - so may be one big family who move as some lived next door to each
other..
family history as i said has mary davies married to
a chalder.
thanks for the help
