I don't know if I can help but I knew Clarence and Gracie Freeman. She was my Sunday School teacher. Where are you located? Do you think Harriet was from St. George? I live in St. George and may be of some help. Perhaps you have found her already.

Surnames: Freeman, Wentworth, Balano, Benner, Chaples...
All I have on Harriett Chaples, is that she was born in 1844 in St. George, married Charles T. Freeman on 25 Mar 1875, and I believe she died in Thomaston, Maine. There may be a chance that her father was James David Chaples, but I'm unsure on that. I would like to find a birth record for her, a marriage record, and her death record, who her parents were and any siblings, plus any other information I might be able to get.

Grace Freeman was my boyfriend's Grandmother.

Hi, so far I haven't found what you want, but ... I wonder if you found that she was married first to John Butman On page 140 in Vital Records of St. George, Maine cmpiled by Marlene Groves first printed Sept. 2003 by Picton Press is listed Oct 23, 1865 Notice of intentions of Marriage between Mr. John Butman of Bristol and Miss Harriet E. Chaples of St. George was duly entered by me & certificate dated Oct 28/65 Samuel Watts town clerk.

Then I found in the 1880 census Charles T. Freeman age 29, sailor; Harriet wife keeping house born in Maine, age 36.
Children Vistina F. (b) about 1876
George A. born in St. George about 1878
Medora Bulman stepdaughter (I think Bulman is mispelled and should be Butman) age 18
Alfred F. Bulman son age 13
Llewelyn Bulman son age 10

These could be children or relatives of her first husband.

I found the marriage of Harriet Chaples and Charles T. Freeman in LDS listed as September 25, 1876 in Bristol, ME.

Found in Genealogical Advertiser
Bristol and Bremen Families
Towns of Bristol and Bremen in State of Maine includnig Pemaquid Settlement

Children of Elisur and Susan (Kent) Butman: Margaret born 12/29/1800, Sally born 10/9/1802, John born 8/26/1804, Mary born June 22, 1806.

Do you have the following info on Clarence and Grace?

Clarence E. Freeman (b) 2/28/1886 married Flora M. Chaples (born 5/10/1893) on June 22, 1910. She died 10/21/1918.

2nd wife Grace Balano (b) 3/5/1891 married Jessie Wentworth first on April 9, 1911 and died January 16, 1952.

3rd wife Nina M. Hart married March 22, 1955.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I found a James Chaples b. about 1793 in St. George and died 3/19/1861. Wife was Sarah Fuller b about 1795 in Warren, married James about 1819 and died 3/19/1861 in Thomaston. Could this be Harriet's parents -- unlikely because Sarah would have been 49 in 1844 when Harriet was born.

Children listed are Hannah b 1828
Albion born 1832 in Warren and died 11/6/1849
Andrew F. Chaples born in Warren

Good luck with your search. I hope this info gives you at least one lead.
