I am grand daughter to Johnny and Cletis Ciarlo. As far as I know, they always lived in Oregon, although I am sure they (at least he) came from somewhere else! Please email me if anyone has any interesting info!

Hi:
My great grandmother was Clotilde Ciarlo, born in Genova, around 1850, daugther of Anita Guastavino, and (no name yet)Ciarlo. She married Alfredo Antonio Paroli, in Callao,Perú, in jan 8th, 1872,who was killed in Italy. Married again to a peruvian army officer around 1880, who was killed in the Peruvian-Chilean war, married again this time an ecuadorean engineer, Juan Massay ( also genovese descendant) who was my father´s grandfather.

So far I have been unable to find data on Anita Guastavino´s husband birth date and marriage.

I have found data from Ciarlo surnames in the phone book of the Genova province, and from Lucca in the Toscana region, altough a lot are from the Bevento province in the Campania region.
The rizzo surname ( from my mother) is from Santa Domenica Talao, province of Cosenza, region of Calabria.

Look to hear from you.

I have been trying to do research on the Ciarlo name for the last 11 yrs. My ancestors (Grandparents and Great) all lived in Ohio. Have been told by some aunts that they originally came from either Genoa or Milano, but have no proof. My Great-grandfather was JOSEPH JESSE CIARLO, he lived in Ohio and Ky. and married a woman from Ohio named Anna Gleason.
Would appreciate any and all information on the Ciarlo's. Thank you

Ciarlo / Iazzolino (or Yazzolino)

I can supply the following information to the name Ciarlo...Luigi and Maria Antonia (maiden: Steine) came to America and settled in Portland, OR. They brought their two daughters with them: Rosina (Rose) and Caterina (Katherine). They came from the village of Serra Pedace(Pedaci), Cosenva, Calabria, Italy. They probably came in the late 1800's. They wrote letters back home to the families in the village saying there was work in Portland. Family and friends followed them including my soon to be great-grandfather: Domenick Iazzolino (changed to : Yazzolino)... he married their daughter Rose in 1903, she gave birth to my grandfather in 1904 and 8 other children by the end of her life around 1931.
Luigi and Maria Antonia Ciarlo gave birth to a girl named Minnie in America but she died in Portland, OR. by the age of 19.
I have much information on the Yazzolino side that followed the Ciarlo's to Portland, but not much about the Ciarlo's.
I hope this proves useful to you...

Surnames: Oliverio, Scarcello, Staine, Leonetti, DeLuca, Esposito, (Calabria)
Sheryl -- I have Steine as Staine.

There were many Staines in the nearby town of Pedace. I am just beginning my research in this area but it seems as though there was much "to and fro" between Serra Pedace and Pedace.

Staine is in my family line. Are you researching Staine or just following the paternal line for now?

my great grandfather was michaelangelo ciarlo. He came from Benevento. His daughter Mary married by grandfather John Perugino, also from Benevento.

I do not know if michaelangelo had any brothers or sisters, or if they remained in Italy.
