I am researching my father's mother's family. She was Emily Crapps born in late 1880's. She had a sister, Elizabeth (Lizzie). My grandfather was Willliam R. Box. His family was from Beaufor Dist., St. John's Parrish, S.C. in the 1700's. My email address is cjvines @mindspring.com

We are trying to research our family from the Beaufort District (St. Peters Parrish). They received a land grant during the 1700's in that area. Nathaniel J. Crapse, and his son James Jonas Crapse (born cir. 1837). Any information you might be able to share would be appreciated. Also, there is a Warren Crapse in Utah who is compiling a family history of the Crapse/Crapps/Crappse.

Were Guy and Bena Crapse related to you? I know how they fit into the Crapse genealogy. Bena died just before reaching age 101. Let me know what you need and I will get the information out of my files.

Do you know Warren Fitts Crapse? Bena was I believe his great Aunt through marriage. Warren's great grandmother Harriet Shuman Crapse (married to Rev. Henry Thomas Crapse) was my great grandmother Mary Shuman Crappse's sister. My maiden name was Crappse but it seems although my grandfather and his 8 brothers and sisters used the spelling Crappse they are definetly closely related to the people who use Crapse and Crapps. So Warren and I are related by the Crapse/Crappse name and the Shuman name. Since Bena was your great grandmother and you know the dates and that she was a member of the Nixville Baptist Church of which Reverend Henry Thomas Crapse was once the Pastor of. Let me know where her husband Guy fits in.

I just read Carls entry from Feb. and see that you are aware of Warren Fitts Crapse. How far back have you been able to get on the Crapps/Crapse from St. Peter's Parish? I am particuarly interested in the land grant in the 1700's. I have some sources who say that our name is German and another related Crapps that believes that the Crapps were indentured servents in Barbadoes in the 1600 or 1700's and then came to South Carolina.
