I am seeking the parents and siblings of John William CRAIGLOW. Two of John's children dropped the "a" and spelled their surname as CRIGLOW. Information from two sources. One, the book "Our Burton Family - Allen Franklin Burton and His Descendants" by Brian W. Burton, pub. by Burton Family Research Association, 10324 Hillcrest Rd., North Little Rock, AR, 72116. The other source was an interview with John Craiglow's granddaughter, my mother-in-law.

I have no idea if this will be read by anyone as the date on the original message was 2001.

Please email if anyone of the Criglow ancestry reads this. My uncle Carl Criglow did extensive research before he died and I would like to share it with you.

I am the descendant of Ruth Criglow and Albert Sparks.
I will check into the family history for your desired information. I am seeking the same also, but I may have sources that already have the information.

Ed, thank you so much for reading and replying to my message. I am so happy to hear from a descendant of Ruth Criglow and Dr. Sparks. Before my mother-in-law died (a cousin to Ruth), she could not remember Dr. Sparks' given name. It was believed that Ruth had gone to live in Tennessee at one time.

Dr. Sparks was a well-known and well-liked physician in Little Rock, AR. My paternal grandmother was a pediatric nurse and Dr. Sparks was one of her favorite doctors. He was also her personal family physician for many years.

I look forward to hearing more. If I can share more data, I will be happy to comply.

Suzy,
As you requested, I sent an email message 27 June. Perhaps you have been on vacation, or otherwise away from your computer.

Your Uncle Carl was well known to my husband and to his mother - Lexie Belle Ray - a daughter of Laura Jane Criglow - sister to Albert Edmund Criglow. Carl and his wife (at the time), Betty came by to visit Lexie a few years before he died. It was a treat for me, for I had not met anyone from Mom Piper's family but a few times.

I look forward to hearing from you again.

Ed--how excited I was to see your email. Ruth Jane Criglow Sparks was my aunt. I am the daughter of Roy Criglow.
My brother and I have been wondering where Aunt Ruth's children are. Jan, Don and I were close in age and have lost touch with that part of the family. How are you related?

Anxious to hear from you.

Katrina,
I was just surfing and noticed you mentioned the book I did on our Burton genealogy in 1986. I haven't done much since then, but have always been interested in the unusually spelled name "Criglow" in our genealogy. If I ever get back into it I'll let you know. Maybe I can turn up something.
Good luck,

Brian, what a pleasant surprise to hear from the author himself- and a distant cousin of my husband Jim!
Since I posted that message, I have found who I believe to be JOHN WILLIAM CRAIGLOW's parents, as well as other data.

Since you traveled and researched the tried-and-true way of genealogists, I want to express my appreciation for the time, money, etc., you expended to compile your data and publish your book. At the same time, I truly envy the experiences you must have had in your interviews, historical research, etc.

Perhaps I should post a new message with the updated data for the benefit of other researchers. This has been the time for responses to the Craiglow/Criglow name!

Brian, I try to cite my sources whether it is merely a census, word from another researcher (with or without a source cited), or whatever. It can at least be clues that way.

Do let me tell you that Mary "Thelma" Walker who married Radford Ray, son of William Seaborn "Seab" Ray and Laura Jane Criglow, is 99 years of age and still living. However, she is in poor health as I type this. She lives in Wayne, Michigan, with her only daughter. I did research on her Walker family for her to add to her Burton data she passed to her daughter Jean. Please feel free to email me.

Katrina,
How fascinating, and thanks for the response. I was 16 years old when I started interviewing, collecting, and hunting down lost ancestors in 1976, and it was my passion for 10 years which culminated in the book when I was 26. I was always the youthful curiosity in all of the libraries surrounded by senior adults, who I loved to engage in conversation and who taught me insights and clues down the ancestor trail.
Now I'm 43 and haven't done much research since the book. Thus, I'm totally "in the dark" on the whole Internet era of genealogy research. I'm sure it has propelled the hobby light years and there are probably tons of records now available that I never had access to as a kid. Yes, I traveled to Mississippi and Louisiana on my treks for clues. I'm so glad I did all of that then because I captured the stories of oldtimers who have long since passed.
That's amazing about the 99-year old relative. Hopefully someone got to her with a tape recorder while her memory was still sharp.
Congratulations on your break-thru. I was always mesmerized by the unusual spelling of the name Criglow and had also seen it spelled Craiglow. It's fun to trace names with twists and turns like that.
Oh well, I'm all chatty and stuff, I'll sign off and hope to stay in touch with you in hopes that one day the spark will reignite and I'll be found somewhere in the dusty archives of a courthouse with a flashlight!
Bon voyage,
Brian Burton
