SEEMS THIS NAME IS NOT SO UNCOMMON, BUT IT IS A MYSTERY AS TO WHERE MY FATHER IN LAW'S FAMILY CAME FROM, WE THINK ACCORDING TO THE BIBLE IT IS ALSO ABRUZZI ITALY. HIS NAME WAS JOSEPH D'ALESSANDRO BUT WHEN HE CAME FROM ITALY TO ELLIS ISLAND THE RECORDS INDICATE HE DROPED THE D' BUT LATER HE ADDED IT BACK TO HIS NAME. HE NEVER STAYED IN CONTACT WITH ANY OF HIS FAMILY FROM ITALY THEREFORE WE HAVE LITTLE INFORMATION. SORT OF A FUNNY STORY BUT I GREW UP WITH A HARRY D'ALESSANDRO IN NEW JERSEY AND WE WERE VERY GOOD FRIENDS. LATER I MARRIED A JOSEPH D'ALESSANDRO WHO WAS NOT AT ALL RELATED, BUT EVERYONE OF MY OLD HIGH SCHOOL BUDDIES ALWAYS THOUGHT I MARRIED HARRY, IN FACT HE WAS CONFRONTED MANY TIMES WITH PEOPLE SAYING TO HIM "YOU FINALLY MARRIED JANET" IT WAS JUST A COINCIDENCE. NOT SURE IF I WAS OF ANY HELP. OUR D'ALESSANDRO FAMILY IS FROM SOUTH PHILA. AND THAT IS WHERE THE ROOTS STOP. CONTACT ME IF I CAN BE OF ANY FURTHER HELP

Jeff,
I live in Houston, TX. My mother's maiden name is Shirley DELESANDRI. My grandparents were L.Thomas Agnes Delesandri. I've been told by many of my Delesandri relatives, that my great-grandparents came here from northern Italy. Also, that the name was spelled differently in Italy; if not exactly DALESSANDRO, it's very similar. Recently, on August 7, I went to my Delesandri Family Reunion. I'm very interested in finding out my geneaology. I have quite a bit of information I've learned over the years about my Delesandri family. If you're interested, let me know. Also...if you could, please respond so we can figure out if we're talking about the same family. Thanks!!!

Dear Sandra,
Thank you for responding. My grandfather was Ling Thomas Delesandri. My great-grandparents came to the U.S. on a boat from northern Italy. The name was still is spelled differently over there. I've asked a few of the older Delesandri's, that are still alive, about the spelling of the name. I've gotten a couple of different answers. All I know is that I THINK you I are talking about the same family. With that said, I am unaware of any relatives living in New Jersey. That doesn't mean a whole lot, though. I only have information as far back as my great grandparents. It's very possible that my great-grandfather had brothers, sisters, cousins, etc. who had children may have ended up living in New Jersey. Sorry I don't have any info. for you. My family is from Texas my grandfather was one of many children born to my great-grandparents. They have all lived in Texas. My grandfather's youngest brother is the only one still alive. His name is (Uncle) Louis. If you have any info. you would like to share, please let me know. Thanks!!!

Surnames: D'Alessandro from Abruzzi Italy
Our D'Alessandro family bible has information about my father in law's father Joseph D'Alessandro who came to America via Ellis Island and did not bring any family members with him nor did he keep in touch with family from Italy. He married a Concetta Perella (??) and he met her in Philadelphia. they had 2 sons Peter and Michael (Michael was my father in law). Joseph's family roots remain a mystery as he never stayed in contact with anyone once he settled in South Philadelphia.
