I am very interested in the Dalziel family my mother in law's mom was a Dalziel her name was Barbara Rowena Dalziel. I have been searching basically blind as my mother in law know's nothing about the Dalziel's. I have no information to share except for her mother. Barbara Rowena Dalziel's brother's name was Adlaska Dalziel.
Hope to hear soon. Laurie

Hi, fellow Dalziel searchers. My husband has Dalziel twice in his family (on his mother's side). One line runs: Andrew Dalziel (b. abt 1760) married Barbara Muir. They had dau. Barbara Dalziel (b. Jan 1789 in Glasgow SCT.) who married John Ure in Glasgow in Oct. 1814.
Other line runs: John Dalziel (B. abt 1770) marr (Nov 1795) Ann Bell. They had John Dalziel (b. Mar 1801, Shotts, Lanark) who marr: Martha Adam. They had Martha Dalziel (b. 1837) who marr: John Alexander Dec. 1859 in Glasgow. That couple had dau Isabella Peddie Alexander (Mar 1864) who marr: Andrew Whyte Ure in 1889. They moved to Canada sometime in early 1900s, settled in Vancouver BC area.
Happy to compare notes with anyone looking for the Dalziels.

Whoever the John Bell in queston married, it was NOT Ann Bell. Thanks to Gord for convincing me that I'm after a different John!

Janet, I am interested in tracing our family name..I have been able to get back as far as a Peter Dalziel b 1773(not sure where). A cousin of my Grandfathers gave me most of the information and i have collected some myself, but find it really hard to get much more

My mother was Janet Daniels Dalziel daughter of Hugh Dalziel and Johnann Rae. She was born in Scotland and as far as I am aware, the history of the name was that it was originally Norman French and came to England with William the Conqueror.

Two of her brothers came to Australia and we have always pronounced the name "D'L".

I would be interested in any information you have on the name.

Regards

Rae Alce

Johann,my g.g.grandfathers name was Walter Dalziel. His daughter was Margaret. She married Frederick Daniels. She was born in 1852 and they came to Ontario, Canada from Philadelphia, USA in 1855. I believe her mother, Catherine Proctor, died in the USA. Her father remarried to an Elizabeth.
They moved to Simcoe County in Ontario in 1873. I have old letters Annie Dalziel wrote to Margaret who lived at Valens, which is close to Toronto.

My Grandfather, John Dalziel, married Maggie Muir in Glasgow Scotland. The family moved to Montreal, Canada around 1912. There were 7 children. I've been trying to find more information on both my grandparents. I don't know if either one of them had any siblings. Saw your Message, and I thought I would try.

I'm not sure if there is a connection but there could be.
My husband's mother had Dalziel twice in her family tree.
One line was Martha Dalziel who married John Alexander in Glasgow in 1859. All I have on her is parents were John Dalziel and Martha Adam. That John D's parents likely were John Dalziel and Mary McMillan. If so, the other children were Anges, Jean, Andrew, Mary, Sarah, and David.
The other is Barbara Dalziel who married John Ure in Glasgow in 1814. I think her parents were Andrew Dalziel and Barbara Muir, but I'm not sure. That couple also had: Janet, James (died young) and James Dalziel.
As both these lines, in our case, end in females born before your time frame, I do not know if your's is one of these families (also do not know if my two Dalziel families were linked -- could be).
I think they all may have been of a non-conformist religion as the records seem very incomplete.
