Hi Marcus,

I am very pleasantly surprised to find there is actually someone else out there besides me researching their Dengate roots! My Dengate ancestors came to the US via Canada from Wittersham, Kent, England, during the early 1840's. As Dengate is a very localized name, I would assume yours came from Kent, Sussex, or Surrey also. When did your ancestors go to Austrailia?

Hi Marcus

My side of the ancestory tree is based in Wollongong NSW. I can only date back to my great grandfather, his name was Francis Dengate father of only one child who was born in the Illawarra region. Shortly after the birth, of my grandfather, my great grandmother died from milk fever, therefor causing my great grandfather to comit suicide some six weeks later.

My grandfathers name is Ronald Dengate. He was then adopted by his aunty, who also beard the name of Dengate. I do not know much about this area of his family, but I do know that he had a cousin that moved to Queensland and had a large family of boys.

My Grand father was born in the 1920s and still lives in the Illawara region. He married into the Humpheries family, by marrying one of their daughters Gwen. The two of them had five children, four girls and one boy, (in order) Trish, Christine, Francis, Rohnda, and William (mainly known as Bill). Trish, Christine and Rohnda are the only surviving children. Fancis died from Cancer and Bill comitted suicide.

I was born in Wollongong and I am the son of Bill Dengate. I am also the only male to pass our family's name on. I no longer live in NSW, and have taken up residentcy in Brisbane Qld.

I hope that this bit of information may help some one out there fill in a missing link. I look forward to hearing from anyone out there with the history of my family that I seam to be missing.

Regards

Tony Ronald Francis Dengate
