I am looking for any DeSena's living in Brooklyn, NY or Queens,NY or who have originated from these areas.

MyGreat Grandmother was Laura Desena, daughter of Micheal Desena and Jennie Scala and was born in Saviano, Italy. She was married to a Leonard Grillo and had several children (Rocco, Michael, Raymond, Helen, Jenny).

If any of these names are familiar, please let me know. Thanks.

Just found where she has rested for the past 29 years. Resting with her is one of her son's Raymond Grillo and 2 brothers Michael and Anthony.

Michael was born in 1873 and died in 1924
Anthony was born in 1885 and died in 1918

And anyone help fill in the rest.. or part of the rest?

Steven

We are from Brooklyn, but there is not much I know. My father was born in Corona and then moved to Greenpoint by the time he was school age. His father, John August DeSena, was born in Saviano. I know he had a brother Pasquale. I don't know when my grandfather came here, but all his children were born here and that was between 1917-1923. I seem to remember my father telling me my granfather was 12 when he came, but that still doesn't help. My grandfather died in 1953, I believe, if not, then 1952. My father died when he was 42, so we have no one to ask, which is why I am searching. :o)
My father grew up next door to a family who were also named DeSena, but they were not related to us. Your great grandmother may have been a cousin or an aunt to my grandfather.

Surnames: Desena-Sena-Delena - Grillo - Scala - Deangelista - Rumi-Pierro-Gaela
My e-mail to Steven bounced ---so

I hope there are still people working on this and will add to what I have.
I found the name spelled Sena - Desena- Delena

l. Michele Desena(sp) b. abt 1854 Italy
...+Giovanna (Jennie, Anna) Scala, b.abt 1854 Italy
possibly divorced. She is with children and he remarried
....known children
....2. Anna
....2. Maria abt 1875 Italy
....2. Laura 1887-1972 m. Leonard Grillo
....2. Michael b.abt 1888 ml)Bennedetta Pierro 2nd)Antonetta
Gaeta
....2. Mario (may be same as Murry)24 June 1888
....2. Philip Antonio b. abt 1888 m. Rose
....2. Vincenzio b. 31 Mar 1893 m. Julia

There is a Maria with Laura on the NY passenger list, who is going to a sister named Anna-- so if these are the correct people--there are two more names (Anna and Maria) to add to the family.

Second marriage was to SABATINA DEVANGELISTA, one record is Michele Delena 16 Mar 1896 to Sabatina D'Angeliste --the other is Michele DeSena 19 to Devangelista (note spelling change)

The 1900 Brooklyn Kings Co. census shows the couple as
Michele Rumi 30
Sabatina 23
Rosina 5
Nicholi 28, brother

This has to be the same couple as was married 1896, and Geovanna, mother of son Michael is living with her son.

I haven't found Nicholi yet and there wasn't any "Rumi" names listed to match.
