Hi there,

My dad and his dad grew up in Paarl, Western Cape, south africa. We are coloured people and want to investigate how our surname was development, and therefore how did we get to maintain the surname. If anyone knows the genealody of the Du Plessis's of Paarl, please let me know. Yours truly,
Randall

Hi Julie,

Hope you doing well. No I have not had any luck at all. I don't think lots of people actively participates on the website.

I am from cape town, with my grandparents originally from Paarl, Western Province. Right now I am living and working in London. I am mixed race and I am sure that my forefathers were part of the French Hugenots that come to the Cape. They must have 'mingled' with the locals or the slaves at the time .... and hence the mixed race was born.

Where are you, and have you had any success. Let me know.

Randall

Dear Randall,
So sorry to tell you that I have only today found your message to me dated sept 3rd. I have a "clever" son who when he wants to use my computer, bypasses my password, knows my internet password, and connects. Trouble is, if he's on when an email comes for me it goes on a different site. Here I am now trying to wade through 60+ emails that consist mostly of newsletters. So sorry for not replying, you must have thought I had no interest. To the contrary. I have friends here (I'm in Western Australia, S.W. corner) who before their Zimbabwian recent history, where from Paarl. And guess what, they were at that time Du Plessis. I'm having difficulty trying to patch onto their line too, as they were in the concentration camps during the Boer War at the turn of the century, lost loved ones in that horror. I would like to find any links in the Du Plessis side, so please re establish contact with me on julie@compwest.net.au as it is easier and quicker for me to find.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon, and don't you dare give up.I have lots of info starting from Jean Prier Du PLessis, the patriarch of the Du Plessis Huguenots in South Africa.
Regards Julie Whitton/Du PLessis
