My great grandfather was Eugene Bal from La Teste Gironde, France. I was born/raised on Oahu. My father's family, the Bals, were from Wailuku Maui. I now live in California. Ive been doing family history for 2o yrs and recently hired a genealogist in France. I always understood that Mr. Bal came to Hawaii from France via New Zealand. I was also told that he came with a Mr. Dudooit and a Mr. Duvachelle. 20 yrs ago I met with an older woman on Molokai but she really couldnt tell me anything about our French connection. Do you know anything specific about our French roots? Were Mr. Bal, Duvachelle and Dudoit from the same area of France? If so, do you know anything about their life in France? Hope to hear from you.

The Historical Society has books that it publishes on a yearly basis. One of the 1955 issues writes about Jules Dudoit. I read in an old book that he was a French Sea Captain who arrived in Hawaii from Tahiti. The Morman Church has some Dudoit details on their web page. Just do a family search.

I am also looking for info on the Dudoit's. My name is Catherine Dudoit also. We are from the French branch and all reside in Louisiana, Florida, and some in Colorado. I have an urgent need to find some link to any Dudoit's out there, since I have poor health and would like to pass down some info to my children. My "Dudoit" husband, Robert, of 21 years is a very unique and "kind hearted" person. His father is also Robert but he was raised by another family, not the Dudoit's. If I can help you in your research please feel free to email me. Sincerely Catherine Dudoit

Aloha Catherine,
I received your e-mail this morning - I really love genealogy and love to learn of new and interesting facts. We live on a little island in Hawaii name Molokai. I was born and raised hers and so was my Husband Reyn Dudoit. He is the son of Jules Dudoit who was named after his grandfather and great grandfather.
I am interested in your Dudoit line how in the world did they end up in Louisiana?? Was it because of Military Service? Are you all realted through Theodore Dudoit? I've never heard of a Robert Dudoit in all my research.

Anyway, Please email me and I'd love to share more of what I have, if you are will to share some information of your side of the family with me....
It's always nice to find someone who is interested in your family genealogy.
Aloha,
