I don't have too much background on my father's family as most of them have passed away. Can you tell me if your family came from Sicily?

Yes my family is from Sicliy. I'am having problems finding info out my family also.
The name Favara is also a town in Sicliy. I have also come to understand that it was a common practice by the u.s. imagration to change the sir name of a person to the name of the town from that they had came from . The reasons for doing this would be maybe the sir name wasnt pronouncable or maybe if that person was a pessant. they may not have owned a sir name. There are also three royal names associated with Favara . they are Favaregotto , Favareaotti, Favariggieo

My uncle and aunt went to visit Sicily in the 1980's and at that time the mayor of Favara Sicily's wife was a Favara. I'm not sure if she was related to my family or not. Unfortunatly both my uncle and aunt are gone now but I am trying to contact my cousin to see if he has further information from that trip. As far as I know my grandfather lived in Salemi before coming to the USA in approximatey 1907 or there abouts. I'll write if I find out any further info on my family to see if it connects with yours in any way.

Hi,

I know this thread is sorta dated...but my family is from Sicily,
through Saginaw, MI. My father, Dominic, has lived in California
since the 1940s. (Probably not the same Dominic as in this thread,
he doesn't do email ;)
My grandfather had a grocery store in Saginaw. I sure miss the
atmosphere of the old Italian groceries. We had one in my home
town in California named SantoLucito's. It was turned into a condo
development a few decades back :-(
I don't remember many names, but I think there were 13 siblings
in the Saginaw family.

Tom,
My daughter Amy just married into the family - I assume from info I see that the Dominic on this board is probably your 1st cousin once removed - son of your father(Nick, wife Ruth)'s uncle Peter (wife Emma). Their brother Anthony & your G-Grandfather (also Dominic / maybe Thomas, wife Grace) had the store in Saginaw at 509 Barnard Street (1923 Polks for Saginaw).Your granddad (wife Elfema) lived on N.6th.
Also noted on this board - Ruth mentioned in last weeks letter that one of your dads sisters, Carolyn(b.abt.1927), married a Joe Barone.
I've been trying to sort out the Census data and match it with Ellis Island - can you offer any help?
Tony

Tony,
Sorry, I have no further information.
Since we were on the west coast, there wasn't much interaction
with the rest ot the family. Your research is more than I know. ;)
Have you heard my Dad's story about the taxi ride to Favara,
Sicily?
