I am the grand daughter of John A. Gaeng and the great grand daughter of Michael Gaeng and Katherine Gertrude Schilling Gaeng. Michael lived with Anne and Frances, his daughters in Balto. on 20th St. in the 1910's I doubt that the Frances is the same one you are looking for but there may be some connection.

David T. Gaeng - Aren't we cousins? If you are the youngest son of John Gaeng and nephew of Bernard Gaeng, we are.

Katherine,
We may well be cousins but I don't know the people you mentioned. I live in St. Louis, Mo. and have all my life. As a former flight attendant and a sister who is currently a flight attendant we have looked up the Gaeng name in every state we've traveled to and found the most in the state of Maryland.
I am married and have one daughter. Any information you would like to share with me would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerly,
Dave Gaeng

Dave, I know I have a first cousin named David Gaeng. He is the youngest son of my father's oldest brother, John, now deceased as is my dad. That's obviously not you since these Gaengs have lived in Maryland all their life. You have the same first and last name. Sorry, I do not know David's middle name and he would be in his early forties.

If we are cousins, it would be distant counsins. I would like to determine if the Gaengs in St. Louis are related to us and if so, how. There is a story that I was told that 2 Gaeng brothers came from Germany through New York (I do not know when; I assume in the 1800's) but they became separated.

I have only been able to trace back to my great grandfather, Michael who was married to Katherine Gertrude Schilling Gaeng. I am her namesake. They lived in Baltimore. I am trying to determine if Michael came from Germany and if so, when. We have a great Hall of Archives in Maryland and I hope to research that question there. I found Michael in the 1920's census, I believe.

I'd love to hear if you have any information to share and what you've learned about Gaengs in other states. All the Gaengs I know are in Maryland and many have stayed in this area. Yes, there are lots here and most are my father's cousins and second cousins. Several live in BelAir MD, my town as well.

If you remember a commercial that Ford did several years ago where the Ford Man gave away money, that was actually a Gaeng. I think it was Raymond who graduated from Loyola College, a long time ago. He's older than me and I'm 54. Several Gaengs here are attorneys and one is a psychologist.

I'd love to hear more from you. "Cousin" Kathy Gaeng

Do you know where Frances's father who is Joseph Gaeng was born in Germany? I am in contact with Elena Green and we are searching for the birth place of Joseph Gaeng who was married to Catherine. They came over in 1855.
