I believe that this may be a variant of Gass, the surname I am reseaarching . The origin is said to be Gask, a Scottish upland plateau near Perth (Trinity Gask and Findo Gask). There being no k in Gaelic, it became Gash (as pronounced) or Gass ( the second s substituting for the k). I am looking for clues to the origin or siblings of John Moody Gass, born somewhere in Ireland in 1800. Wife, Margaret---. Witnessed his son John's wedding at St. Anne"s belfast in 1844 and emigrated to Albany N.Y. in the 1850's.
