I am a descendant of the Hornung family, which was originally Horning. I have traced my ancestry back to 1673, when Jean Pierre Horning fled religious persecution in France, and settled in Friedrichstahl, Germany. Approximately 70 people from 15 families established this town. The Hornungs and the Gorenflos intermarried frequently.

One of the most complete family trees you will find is one put together by Bernd Hornung, at http://members.tripod.com/~BHornung/
There are alot of Gorenflos there. My first ancestor in the US homestaeded in North Dakota, Kidder County, next to his childhood friend, Ernst Gorenflo.

E-mail me at markham@htc.net.

My husband's grandmother was Christina Gorenflo from Freidrichstal; her mother was a Hornung. She came to the Springfield, Illinois area because both an aunt and an uncle (Hornung) were here. She married J. W. Krell. Yes, there were a lot of intermarriages between these families it appears.

My ancestors were Goranflo. Various spellings are Goranflot, Goranflo, Gorenflo, Garenflor, Killerflauer, Killnflohr, and was eventually Americanized to Colliflower. My mother is descended from George Adam Goranflo, Sr. of Friuedrechstal, Germany, who migrated to Pennsylvania in 1749 with his children Isaac and Philip. He married someone named Catherina. George Adam's father was Pierre Gorenflo who was born in France in 1682 and fled to Germany in 1699 during the Huguenot persecution. His father was Jacques deGorenflo, who was born in 1646 in Gorenflo/Goranflot, France. Any connection?

Hello,

I am researching William Barie of Wihelm Barie. The Barie name also is linked with the Gorenflo name and the Hornung names in Freidrichstal.
Do you know the middle name of the Christina Gorenflo?

My new address is as follows:

Thanks, Chris Ailts

I hope there's a connection somewhere (well, isn't there a connection with everyone from Friedrichstal?!?! Sometimes it makes my head "swim" to work on those records!)

My husband's grandmother was Christina Stefania/Steffanie Gorenflo, her mother was Steffanie Hornung whose 2nd husband was Ludwig Heinrich Barie. Per LDS records, his father was Peter Wilhelm Barie and mother was Christina Maurer. I had been told Steffanie and Louis had Pauline, Amelia and Otto but thru searching the LDS site, someone has Paulina, Emma, Otto Ludwig and Elise Luise. I have Charles Hesse as husband of Pauline. I would love to know if there's any way to obtain German army records, because Otto was killed during the war.

I would also appreciate knowing more about the 4 above mentioned children. I've been told Pauline came to America and even corresponded with one of my husband's aunts.

I'll be glad to share any information that might be helpful to you if I have it. My email is marno@springnet1.com
