I would like to find proof of which James Goynes is my ancestor. I know that Wiley Williamson Goynes was born in Georgia on Dec. 2, 1799 and died in Live Oak Co., Texas. His tombstone is there in the Old Goynes Cemetery located off IH 37, near Goynes Junction (IH 37 and State Hwy. 59)- North of there on IH 37 to the left. I have nearly all of the descendents of Wiley Williamson, but would like to find more about his ancestors, along with the proof.

I am also trying to locate any relatives of James Goynes. Basically all I know that he was raised in Texas. I'm not sure of birth place. I am looking for W. Goynes and a James Goynes (father and son). James' date of birth was October 10, 1890. I don't know if any of these dates are exact. If you please contact me I would appreciate it.

Dear Brenda
When I first read your message I thought you were my niece, Brenda Goynes-Davis. Later I realized you are probably another Brenda. I know perhaps, Most of the genealogy on the Goynes family I descend from, (all the descendents of Wiley Williamson Goynes and Martha Brister-Goynes). Wiley was born Dec. 2, 1799 in Georgia and Martha was born in abt. 1804 in Kentucky. Her ancestors lived in Greenville, S. C. at one time. Wiley's father was James Goynes, but I know little more than that, except he was in the War of 1812, and there are documents from Archives about his service.

If you write to Gowen Research Foundation in Lubbock, Texas I am sure they will have answers for you.

I have a James Goynes, born 4-3-1877 in Live Oak Co., Texas, and he married Laura James, but they had no children. His father was William Goynes (My Great Uncle) the brother of my Grandfather A. S. (Augustus Sanders Goynes). I have Wills and etc. that prove this. Nearly all of the Goynes men were in the Civil War.

Where was your James Goynes from? Was his father William or Wiley. There was a son of William, named Wiley W. Goynes (after his Grandpa, I guess) and he dissappeared from the area. Some say he went to Calif. and that he had lost his leg and had become a Baptist Preacher. He could have named a son after his brother James, but I have no record of that.

I recently wrote a book called "Texas Roots" It is 940 pages, and is in the State Library in Austin, Texas. You may live near there, and can look at the many Goynes's in the book. There are very few who spell it that way that are not kin to us. Some spell it Guynes and Goings, I Believe, who may be our distant kin.

For some reason they changed the spelling of the name over the years, perhaps to differenciate the different families.

I hope this post has helped you. If you look at the "Texas Roots" book, look on pages 89d and 89e.Also, page 177 and 259.

Dear Margaret,
In your posting you mentioned a Goynes who disappeared. I'm searching for information on a William Goins, born on July 16, 1838 supposedly in Va/NC. I've searched Melungeon List, the Gowen List, and various others and he seems to have come from a puff of smoke. If possible, perhaps we can compare what I have with what you have. This message is for Margaret Goynes.

My name is Heather Goynes and I am looking for information on my family tree. My father's name is Gerald Goynes His father was Cecil Goynes, born in 1914. His father was John Goynes , who died in Glendale, Tx in1918. John married a lady by the last name of Schillings. Other than that I don't have alot of information. I was wondering if we were in some way related being both from Tx (SE).

Thanks,

Heather Goynes

My name is Peggy Goynes.I am also trying to trace my geneaology.
My grandfather's name was Bob Goynes, born in June 4 1881 or 1887
in GlenDale or White Rock, Tx. He married Susie Jackson in 1915.
They had 1 son, Delbert Goynes (my Dad) and l daughter, Billie Goynes.
They are all deceased now, and what family records I have, there are
discrepancies. With the same spelling of surname and the town Glendale,
there is possible a link there. I have come to a lot of dead ends trying
to go back farther than my grandfather. Hopefully we can help each other.

Hi Brenda, I am hoping you can help me. Do you have an Amos Goynes in your data bank? He was living in Miss. in 1840. I believe he is my Gr Gr Gr Grandpa. He had a daughter named Catherine Angeline who married William Hughes Moore in 1850 and they lived in Sebastian Co. Ark. Catherine was born in 1832 in Miss. If you have an Amos I would appreciate it if you would get in touch with me at nanniesaponi@lanset.com
