I was born in Mississippi in 1959. (Town of Louisville) My father, George Wilbur Hartness, died in 1970. His father, Otha Hartness, Sr. died in 1976. I'm not sure where either of them were born. I now live in the Tampa, FL area.

Cathy, my maiden name is Hartness. My father was Walter Hartness Jr.. As far as I know, the original American Hartness migrated from northern England to Charleston, South Carolina in the late eighteenth century. I think his name was Robert. I picked this up from somewhere but now don't remember....

I am looking for my father, Elvis Harold Hartness. I was told that his father's name was George Hartness, Irish in decent. However, his mother was Nancy Hartness (I don't have maiden name) possibly full-bloodied Cherokee or Choctaw. Did George originally marry Nancy. Is this the same link? I know that Elvis had a brother named Thurman, but I don't know if there were any more brothers or sisters. I am 46 and have not seen my dad since I was 9. I would really like to get my Indian registry, but am unable to do so until I find family that can help fill me in. Can you help? Elvis was born in Arkansas 1930ish. Thurman was a little older born in 1920 something. Mother Nancy was born 1890 something. Elvis was in the army and married Mary Jo Brumit. Lived in Texas, Ok, possibly Arkansas and California. Brother Thurman died in California 1970 something. Can't find the rest of Thurman's family, although he had two sons.

Elvis and Thurman Hartness were my father's younger and older brothers. My father, Ishmael Homer Hartness, went by the name Robert. He died in 1985 in Houston. Their father's name was Homer "Fred" Hartness and their mother was Nancy Williams Hartness. Please email me at dlan106013.

Hartness, not George, but Fred

Dear Cousin Judy, I can't believe it. I have been searching for a year. Is Fred still alive. Did you meet the grandfather? Did you ever meet the grandmother Nancy? I met her once when I was fourteen just shortly before she died. How old are you? What do you know about my father Elvis? Is he alive? I haven't seen him since I was 9. I have so many questions. My e-mail address is djhmrich@jps.net. Please e-mail me with an e-mail address and or phone number. Nancy was pure-blooded Cherokee or maybe Choctaw, do you know? I want to register with the tribe. Elvis had four children by my mother, MaryJo Brumit Hartness. Did he remarry and have more? My mother died in 1980. I have an older brother, James Harold Hartness (Elvis' name was Elvis Harold), I am Joy Denise, I have a sister Neta Marie and Carolyn Ann. We are all cousins. I had no family on my father's side until you responded. I have three children and two grand children. This is great. Can we talk on the phone? I live in California. E-mail me personally and let me know. Do you have brothers and sisters? Thanks FAMILY HISTORY.com

You mentioned that you knew of relatives from OK. My father, Tyrone Hartness, is from OK. I would enjoy hearing from you to see if there is a connection.
