I have a copy of a small history pub 1976 by Richard Holben titled "Gleanings - a History of the Holben and Rettinger Ancestors of Twide R. Holben 1883-1965". The Holben history begins with your J. Jacob. Would be happy to share what I have.

Your message on requested info on the subject. I and others have almost all his ancestors. Is there a particular branch you want. I am a decendent of his son Lorentz who was one of four sons.

I am a descendant of John Jacob Holbein, and am very interested in obtaining more information. Also, I have a grandfather, Charles Edmund Holben who I have lost contact with and would like to find. He was born August 17, 1919 and was last living in Battlecreek, Michigan. Any information is greatly appreciated. You can contact me at

I am also descended from Johann Jacob Holbein. Your grandfather had twin sons Daniel John and David Allen born 9/20/1943. I presume you are a son of one of them. I have 11 generations from Johann Jacob Holbein but do not have the grandchildren of Charles Edmund. If you can give me this information, it would be appreciated. There is a Holben Reunion in Michigan every September. I can put you in contact with Connie Holben who has done a lot of genealogy on the Michigan branches and could probably track down your grandfather. I can give you a lot if you are interested in the whole history, at least that I have.
Regards, Gene

Please look at message #14. Perhaps you can identify Martha A. Holben in the resources you have - and it would be greatly appreciated. For me, that particular family line stops with her.

John: I have now Martha A. Holben in my Holben line. I have done some work on the Peter line because my g.g.g.grandfather married a Catharina Peter who I have been unable to locate. In Family Treemaker Vol. 12 Tree #3073 for Ulrich Peter, Jonathon Peter is married to Martha Holden with the same dates you have. A Peter tree in the User Home Pages of by Christopher Peters, Jonathon is married to Martha Halben with no dates listed. The Holben's came from Northampton County so there may be a tie in but I don't have it. Where did you get the reference to "Martha Holben"? Maybe I can back trap from there. Good luck,
Eugene F. Holben
