My mother's maiden name was Hoshall. Her father was Franklin Elmer Hoshall b. 3/2/1869 d. 6/1940 son of Bennett Talbott Hoshall Anne Elizabeth Gore m. Ann Virginia Smith b. 9/3/1876 d. 12/31/1951.
I know that the Hoshall name spelling was Oshal then Hoshal. Bennett Talbott added the second L because his name ended in double letters.
If anyone has any infomation on the Hoshall please E-mail me at LouAnnaJan@aol.com

Unfortunately, I have no information on your particular line as my research notes cover a much earlier period. But, based upon the names involved, your line should be easy to find in the 1850 through 1900 census records of the 5th and 6th Districts (the northern portion) of Baltimore County, Maryland. There were/are many Hoshall's and Gore's in area around Middletown.

Have done almost no research on your Gore line. Most Hoshall's are descendants of Jesse Hoshall, the Revolutionary War pensioner, of upper Baltimore County. I have information on his children and a few of his grandchildren. Your line seems to be one or two generations down from there.

I have an extensive early history of Jesse
Hoshall and his brother Henry.
Jesse and his brother were born in Holland and
came to the states about 1775. Jesse stayed
in Maryland and Henry went on to Pennsylvania
with his wife and family.
My family line is with Henry but the family
history does have quite a bit about Jesse and
his line.
One of his 11 children, named Efraim (born
1796) married Catherine Elizabeth Talbot
(~1832). Their son Bennett was born ~1835.
He married Annie Gore ~1860 and had 7 children
Frank, Walter, Charles, Clarence, Archibald,
Lavina and Edith. I think this is where your
family fits in.
Please email me with any info you may have on
any of the other Hoshals. I didn't know that
about the change of names although the family
history suggests that may have happened.

Would love to exchange information with you on Jesse Hoshall and his brother Henry. Do you have any information on another brother named Justice?

Many other researchers have stated that the Hoshall family came from Holland. But, no one has any documentary evidence to support the statement. At least, I have never seen any. Because Rotterdam and other Dutch ports were the usual port of embarkation for German and Swiss Palatines, I have often thought that his origin was confused by that fact.

Please send an e-mail to me at mcprts@aol.com.

Thanks.

My great-grandmother was a Hoshall: Flora J. I have no information at all about her except she was born in Baltimore, MD. and married Charles Anderson. Charles Anderson then married my grandmother, Ida Evaline Harrison in Kansas. I hope someone has info on the Hoshall's who had a daughter Flora. There is a Florence, but she died at age 6 so that's not the right one! thanks for any help! patti bagley - pbagley@ojai.net

Can you verify that among the children of Jesse and Mary Hurst was a John Hoshall? I am descended from John.

Anything you know about these people would be of great interest to me and you can email me at oakeymertz@att.net.

Surnames: Hoshal, Hoshall, Peregoy
I have only documented Bennett Talbot Hoshall as well. This is my husband's great grandfather. His grandparents were Clarence Augusts & Elva Mabel Peregoy Hoshall. They had 9 children, but only 7 lived to be adults. Sadly the children were split up when Elva died 17 days after the 9th child was born. When I started looking 15 years ago, there were still some older relatives alive, but no one would talk about what happened. I have searched cemeteries high & low, but no Clarence there or a death certificate. There are still 3 of the children alive, but they don't know either.
Any help is appreciated.
