Hi,

I have Jacobs family in that used to live in Arkansas, and family that still lives in Tennessee. Maybe there's a connection?? My family name was spelled with a V instead of a W, but who knows.. there may be a match.. please contact me, via email.

As you can see, I am a Jacobowitz, altho' I don't know of any Tennessee relatives. I have been told that this is a very common Jewish last name. (Son of Jacob). Our family origins are from an area of Eastern Europe called Ruthenia -- part of the sub-Carpathian mountains. Don't have lots of information, but am always interested in connecting.

My paternal great grandmother is named Lena Jakubovitch--but we are not sure of the spelling of her last name. It has many spellings, including Jacobowitz. She was from Transylvania when it was in AustriaHungary, not sure if she was Austrian or Hungarian because from what I understand her town was on the border). If this sounds familiar to you please reply. Btw I live in NY too. :)

My paternal grandparents were named Albert and Florence Jacobowitz. They were definitely from Hungary--they came over to Brooklyn, NY in the early 1900s (I'm not sure exactly when, but I know they were Brooklynites at least by the mid-1920s). I'm a New Yorker as well. :)
