My grandmother's parents moved to Canada (Manitoba) from England - their last name was Jopson. Her father died in Canada and her mother moved back to England and died there. I only know of a few relatives in England - and none in the USA - I am looking for any information . . . period, really. This is my first time to this site, and I will need to post further information on their names, etc., - I believe Mrs. Jopson's maiden name was Pepper. My grandmother's was Sarah Elizabeth Pepper and she was born in Canada in 1916???

My great grandfather and his brother/s (?) moved from England to Canada to work in the mines in Timmins Ontario. My g. grandpa died in a mine accident and his family and children remained in England. To my knowledge his brother/s (?) remained in Canada and l am searching for there relatives. The surname is JOPSON the family comes from the Lake District of WestMoreland in England and l have access to photos. Please contact me because l think we may be related and l am going to Canada in April 2002 to find my G. Grandpas grave and any relatives who may be still alive.

Our family also originated from the Lake District (we have family graves near Lake Windermere)... I believe the name was at one time fairly common in that region. Our particular clan settled mainly in West Lancashire, England. We know of relatives in Australia & New Zealand but maybe there's a Canadian link too.

My Jopson ancestors George, John and William Jopson were from the Lake District of Westmoreland in England. I have numerous records on these families. They lived in the Massachusetts and Connecticut areas. Did you vist Canada in April 2002 and find the graves of your ancestors?

My grandmother was Elizabeth Ann Jopson and I believe she came from Liverpool. She died when my father was only 7 months old in 1915. They then lived near Wrexham in North Wales.

i have just read a book wriiten about edwin jopson from the cotswolds in england. He came to New zealand to settle in august 1874. i am interseted in the idea that a jopson might have come from canada during the gold rush and that i am related through that way. i think he may have been an uncle of edwin

My great-great-great-grandmother was Sarah Jopson, also born in Liverpool c1824. She married John Yeo and they had 5 daughters. After John Yeo died she remarried John Armstrong. Sarah died c1868.

I believe Sarah had a sister Mary Ann (born c1818), and 2 brothers Robert (born c1821) and Joseph (born c1826).

I think their parents were called Robert and Alice (born c 1792).

I am searching for the Jopson from Liverpool

I have from the 1841 & 1851 cencus

William JOPSON born 1790 Turpentine Distiller
Jane JOPSON born 1814 Walton, Liverpool
William JOPSON born 1829 Liverpool, died 1849
Robert JOPSON born 1837 Kirkda,e Liverpool
Norman JOPSON born 1839 Kirkdale, Liverpool
Charles JOPSON bron 1841 kirkdale, Liverpool
John JOPSON born 1843 kirkdale, Liverpool
Richard JOPSON born 1845 kirkdale, Liverpool
Jane JOPSON born 1847 kirkdale, Liverpool
William JOPSON born 1850 kirkdale, Liverpool

William JOPSON born 1790 died in March 1851 before the 1851 census, the 1841 census did not show where a person was born, only that it was not in that area.
We think that he probably came from Cumberland.

William Jopson married Jane Lunt, but I cannot find the entry for their marriage.

Robert Jopson born 1837 married Harriet Chamberlain born 1838 Waterloo, Liverpool, and they moved to the Isle of Man with thier sons in 1870
