Hello, I am looking for the record that gives the maiden name of Clara Judgwyn in her marriage to Edward Parrish. I descend through Edward's daughter to Matthew Hawkins. Thanks, Jeanne

I am also descended from Clara and Edward Parrish. From there son John Parrish married to Sarah Franklin. I haven't personally seen this information, but I've heard that in John Judgywn's will he gives something to his sons in law and he lists Edward Parrish as one of them.

It seems we are both desc from Clara and Edward through their son John and his wife Sarah Franklin. I am from John and Sarah through their son Edward who married Elizabeth Gill. What about you?

I'm descended through their son John who married Elizabeth Thomas. I don't know much about her besides her marriage date and the year she died. My line from Edward and Clara is:

John, John, John, (maybe one more John. not sure of him. Some have him listed, and others just have his father as being the father of the next one. I think it's very possible that this John did not exist since I've never seen a wife's name), Joshua, John, Peter, Joseph, Matilda, Helen, Robert, and then myself.

This is a really interesting side of the family, I mean they all are, but the Parrishes have been here almost from the first day of colonization of the Americas.

I'd love to know a little bit more about your side of the family. Here's some more information on my part of the family: They stayed in Maryland for several generations, and then Joshua Parrish moved to Cambria County as it was being formed and was converted to Catholism by Prince Gallitzin. They even held quite a few of the masses in the Parrish home. The rest of my family stayed in Cambria until about 1950 when my grandmother and grandfather moved up to Erie, PA.

One other thing that I found interesting that you might as well is something said by Charles Dickens when he stopped in Cambria and ate at the tavern run by John Parrish, Joshua Parrishes son, "Charles Dickens visited the place, reported the food as terrible, the people dirty." Consider the setting, English author, Russian Prince/Priest, Hunters, Trappers, all in an Tavern! Maybe Dickens was right!

That's probably a lot more than you wanted, anyway, look forward to hearing from you.

Katie

Hello, I also descend from Edward Parrish and Clara Judgwyn through their daughter, Mary's marriage to Matthew Hawkins. I would like to know more about the Judgwyn family. I understand Gwynn means Welsh and apparently the Jud is the family. Also, I am told the gene pool is fairly contained so that most all of the early people are interrelated. I have never seen proof that Clara's name was Judgwyn. Do you have evidence of it? Thanks, Jeanne

I'm sorry. I have never seen any proof of Grandma Clara's maiden name either. I wish I had.

Thank you for your response. Do you know where and when the Judgwyn surname was attributed to Clara? Perhaps they would know how it started and give some clues?

I was told "gwyn" means Welsh. perhaps the Judg is a family name or denotes lineage? Jeanne
