Searching for information on the descendants of Nicolaus Kachelriess who arrived in American September 27, 1737 at the Port of Philadelphia, abroad the ship "Snow Molly" which left from Amsterdam, Holland and sailed to America via Dover, England.

Believe he is the same Nicholas Cochelrise who is listed on the 1737 Early Census Index - Philadelphia Co, PA.

No record found after 1737. Believe this family is picked up again the Granville District of NC in 1769/1770 with possible widow Mary Cocklereece Miers/Myars and possible sons Michael and Tabalt Cocklereece. Michael Cocklereece/Cocklereese is proven to be Michael Kachelreiss. Three of Michael's possible sons, Nicholas, Jacob, and Henry Cocklereese migrated to Sumner County TN about 1812. Tabalt's possible son John/Johannes, migrated to Illinois about 1834. Some mid to late 1800's descendants moved on to Iowa, Oregon, Missouri, and Texas.

Known descendants of Kachelriess have been found with the following surnames (among others): Cocklereece/Cocklereese, Cockelreece/Cockelreece, Cucklereese, Cockleriece, Cocklereas, Cocklerees. Many of these family lines dropped the Cockle/Cockel between 1840 and 1850 and became Reece, Reese, and Rees.

Martha, there are several Henrys and Daniels in this family...

Daniel, b. 1787 in Orange Co, NC, was my 3-gf. Births of most of his and wife Phebe's children are documented in the Friedens Lutheran Church Records (originally in German, now transcribed into English) which is near Gibsonville, on the Guilford / Alamance County line in NC.

I found the translation at the Greensboro NC Public Library. NC State Archives has a copy of the original in German. The Church also sells a copy of the original (but not the translation).

Church Record for Henry (who married Mary "Polly" Carmack:

Heinrich Kachelriess, born 6/30/1823, Bapt. 9/30/1823.
Parents: Daniel Kachelriess / wife
(Source: Friedens Lutheran Church, Orange County, Gibsonville, NC; Records 1802-1848, page 41)

1845 - Henry Reece m. Mary M. Carmack, 9/13/1845, Guilford NC (Marriage Bond)

1850 - Henry Cockbreece, NC Federal Census, Southern Division, Guilford Co, family 80:

Henry b. 1825 in Orange County;
Polly (Carmack) Cockbreece b. 1829, and Daniel Cockbreece b. 1847 in Guilford;
Polly Carmack (Sr) (mother of Polly Jr.?) b. 1780 in Craven County NC (Note - age of Polly Sr. conflicts with 1860 census)

1860 Census - NC, Guilford County, South Division, Greensboro PO, family 1026:

Henry Reece, 35, farmer
Mary M., 27
Daniel, 13
Mary E., 8
Alfred R., 4
Mary Carmack, 60

I believe that the the Jacob Cocklereese that you mentioned moved to Sumner Co., TN might be an ancestor of mine.

The information that I have is not verified, as I received it from another source. I am the great-grandaughter of Virginia "Virgie" Tennessee Harrison. I believe that she is the great-grandaughter of Jacob Cocklereese.

He was born in 1792 in NC and died in 1838 in Sumner Co., TN. He was married to Lucretia "Creasy" Jackson(born in 1796 in NC). They had a daughter, Caroline Reese(1825-1893)(name change?). She married James Bradley in 1854 in Macon Co., TN. They had a daughter, Mary Ann Bradley(1856-1925), who married James S. Gregory on Oct. 2, 1872 in Sumner Co., TN. One of their children was my great-grandmother, Virginia.

Any information you have on the family would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Gina Whiteside
