Greetings,,have just seen your post re: Kana
My grandmother was Anna Agnes Kana/Kanna (etc) depending on whom you asked. Her parents were John Kana and Susan (Janik) Kana. I believe they arrived on the Kaiser Wilhelm out of Bremen Germany in approximately 1908 or so. They settled in Youngstown, Ohio. John's brother was Joseph, but I do not know the name of Jospeh's wife. John was illiterate and Susan was the educated one who was instrumental in starting at least two businesses. Susan died in 1918 of cardia complications during the flu epidemic. The children of John and Susan Kana were: Martin, John, Joseph, Anna, Mary, and Catherine. I have just returned this week from visiting an elderly aunt (the wife of Joseph) and gotten much to help with my search. The older John Kana worked for the railroad cleaning locomotives. The family name was Americanized to Kana and later to Kanna. One of Jhon's daughters even added Mc to Kana so her father couldn't find her when she left home. If you think there may be some connection,,, pls e-mail me at PeopleSeeker@aol.com........Thanks...Vicki

I have never met him. My parents parents migrated fro Czechoslovakia ,a way back, Shere is a place that is called Stefano which was named after my mothers relatives, and my dad's came from Trenchovsky. i am noat sure how to spell this, My sis ter was doing a family tree and I helped her immensly on this subject. I am well knowledged on my family history. My dad's family was very wealthy they were millionaires, when ;the currency was Krowns ,they had property and vast vinyards which I saw when I was in Europe. My granddad travelled all over the world, I have pictures of him in America. He was a very astute person with a huge mustache ,like my dad they looked very much alike,Mare

My correct spelling the way I spelled it is Kana my parents were born in Jugoslavia but their grand parents came from Czechoslovakia ,there was never a different spelling for that name that were relatives of outs there were other people that would have like to say we were related but they were serbian not slovak and spelled their name Kanja. not at all related .My mother was a Stephan and the City of Stepano in Czech/ was named after her grandparents, they were a very prominent familyh and so were the Kanas there is not one person who does not know who the Kanas are or were a vey wealthy family who owned vast amount of land and property , and vineyards, all the K;ana family has died long ago and at a very early age including my grand dad, who made trips all over the world, My parents came over in 1930 on the Old Queen Mary which is docked in long beach california. The family lived by the old rule you married into your own status and own denomination or you were outcast and they also had their partners picked for ;them by the family it was a very tight knit institution, even my mother husband was choosen for her. much has not ;changed since then. I have been there three times in the past, only girls remained , the other Kana is a Pediatrician who was in Belgrade a cousin and may be dead by now,my cousins are in Australia who has the same name as my dad and the other one is in Lubaj. Vicki I just returned from visiting my mom today and found out all the ancestors names re Kana Grandpa was John as was his father since the first born was always named after the father, his wife was Anna (nee)Murten His birth was dec 1867 died aug 281927,her was aug 1868 died nov 9 1929 in jugoslavia. My little brother died at the age of three and is buried in the town of Bingula in the county of Sriem.after the second world war the whole town was wiped out from the bombs I do not know whether your name is Serbian and it was changed , but my parents were from Slovak origin from Czechoslovakia. There are a lot of kanas however they are not relatives of ours as I stated earlier there are none left since all my dads relations died very early, both my dad's parents died at age 60.There are a lot of people that have that name but have shortened it from something else and also in Hawaii they have that name it is Japanese Kana in Hawaii is the name Jan.also athose that had the name Kanja have shortened it to Kana which is wrong it is using another persons name in a wrong context.

Kana, Kanna, Kania

This message is for Vicki, I do not know what boat youur ancestors came on to the us. but my parents came on the WQueen Mary that is dociked in Long Beach of which I was there to visit, just to see what it looked like. No doubt they landed in New YOrk since that is where most of the boats landed years ago. Then they took the train out west to Alberta and stayed there until 1937 from 1930. they came during the depression the railroad wanted people to move heree to build up the country . Marka
