Hello!
There is actually a place called Kankaanpää here in Finland and it´s also a very common surname. I haven´t heard of a name Kangaanpää
so I think it´s probaply Kankaanpää.
Maybe you`ll find information from this address: www.genealogia.fi

I just checked www.genealogia.fi/hiski,
to see if there were any Kangaanpää-names in the churchbooks, and there WAS!
I was actually suprised, because I was so sure it was Kankaanpää...Well, anyway:
Most of the Kangaanpää-families lived in the Westside of Finland, in such towns like; Alavus, Ahlainen, Jalasjärvi, Kalajoki, Kristiinankaupunki, Lapua, Loimaa, Perho, Peräseinäjoki, Sievi, Tyrvää and Ylivieska.
Just let me know if you need some help to search some names or something!

My Father or his Aunt related the name for his Grandmother as Kangaanpaa, they both spoke Finnish so I thought they were correct, her Husband name Isaac Somppi some say that is not common also. Maybe Solveig Bernitz could respond.

Hello Solveig,
Could the Family name come from Kyro an area close to Ylistaro, Vaasa, I found a reference on a map to the town but the only Town I found with that name was in the South in the Hame area. I found a reference to Kyro in Vaasa area in a History Book. It was were a great battle took place. so I hope it is the right area.

Hello!
Yes, there was many Somppi-families in Ylistaro, for example; Johan Somppi and Maria Michelsdotter(25yrs). Their son Hedvig was born 3.5.1846. I found one Isak Somppi from Ylistaro(born 1879), who migrated to America and Sanna Jemina Somppi(b.1883) who also moved to America.
Actually, if you don´t know this already, here´s a good site to look for ancestors(or atleast I found it useful to locate my relatives):
www.migrationinstitute.fi/migration
-I think there should be some good links!

I tried that Web site monthes ago but they were not taking more work if that is the same site, I will try again. My Great Grandmother Sanna Kangaanpaa son John Somppi went to America twice. I found 5 John Somppi's going to America one with Isaac Somppi all about the same time and very close in age all from Ylistaro. I have 4 Great Aunts Sanna, Mina, Mary and Ida. I did hire a Researcher last Nov. but I keep looking because I don't have any hope.
Thank You
