My grandmother, Emma Matsen, was born and
raised in Denmark. She came to the US and
was married to Howard Herman Kanis who was
born in NJ. His father, Ernest Kanis, was
born in Germany. Thanks, but I think we are
from a different tree.

My dad was Kenneth Kanis, son of George (Garret) Kanis, who was son of Burt (Garret) Kanis.
Burt Kanis emmigraded from Holland to the US in the early 1900's. Settled in Wisconsin. I will have to go thorough the rest of the family tree to get more information, if anyone is interested.

My great-grandfather, Ferdinand Kanis, emigrated from Saxony, Germany, around 1870. He worked in the steel mills in Pennsylvania for several years, before traveling to Little Rock, Arkansas, and homesteading 168 acres. My family still owns a large part of the original homestead. In Little Rock, a road and a city park are named after my great-grandfather: Kanis Road and Kanis Park.
